Over the last couple of years much of my leg hair has just disappeared. I don't know where it went or why. Does anyone know is this something that happens from wearing stockings and leggings? I have never shaved it or tried to do anything to get rid of it.

I am not happy about this at all.

Hi Absorka. If I may ask, how old are you? The reason I ask is the same thing happened to my father as he passed Andropause, sort-of a male menopause of reduced available testoserone that makes viagra attractive to males of a certain age. It may have been happening to me, but I hastened the process with estrogen as I transitioned. Anyway, that could be one explanation. If you are any part Native American, that can also enhance the process.

On the other hand, another effect of andropause is what you perceive as fall out mignt be the thinning of the hair shaft and fining of the hair itself, with reduced growth rate.

Anyway, from the FWIW department, that may be an explanation.
Not sure why you view it negatively? Can make life as a CD much neater.

Thanks Carolynn,

I'm 53. THe idea of andropause makes sense since other things seem to be happening also. I had I 131 treatment for hyperthyroidism a little over a year ago and that also could be a cause-it sure seemed to affect an awful lot of other things. But those effects seem mostly gone now.

I'm pretty much Caucasian. I've done enough family tree research to know that every ethnic or racial group started out as some other group but I don't think Native American ancestry has anything to do with it.

As to why I don't like this, I don't like changes to my body that I don't understand. Besides, what's next? The hair on my head?

If your constantly wearing tight hosiery, that could be the cause, along with age.

My youngest brother wears support socks, and as such are tight. He has no hair to speak of down near the ankles. He's only 43.

I went to see the doctor about other stuff yesterday and she said that even though my blood levels look good I still have signs of being hypothyroid. So that could be it although I also looked itup on the web and it said that lower leg hair loss is actually farily common with aging.

So apparently I'm not the only one this is happening to... I thought maybe it was due to wearing boots for most of the day but then the loss of hair got higher than the tops of the boots. I am 42 and this has been going on for about 5ish years or so.

Well, Virginia has some Comanche blood in her, and her leg hair is not falling out . . . which is okay, because she loves the act of shaving her legs.

Here's the other side of the story: my leg (and back - EEK!) hair is slowly growing back. The laser hair removal two years ago really did a great job, and they only promised permanent "reduction" not removal. Oh well, I guess there's always waxing. 8-[
