IDST 80G Social Justice & Diversity: Transphobia,

This course provides a critical understanding of transphobia within the context of diversity and social justice, and expands on one’s knowledge, resources, and skills to explore, examine, and evaluate transphobia on an individual, institutional, and societal level. It covers establishing a common language about trans identities, dispelling myths and stereotypes about trans people, an overview of multiple systems of oppression and privilege, the effects of transphobia (including internalized transphobia), and strategies to identify and overcome transphobia through a variety of interactive teaching methods including music, short lectures, interactive exercises, small and large group discussions, and guest speakers.
