GF=SO?

Post by DeeDee »

Ok...as usual I'm not sure where to post this. This might sound stupid, but I keep referring to my girlfriend as ..well..my girlfriend. Is there a point when she becomes a SO...or is she now? Or is it just a term?
Briefly, I met her indirectly through Triess and she is more than happy with DeeDee while accepting that I can't always present myself as such. Its been a dream that I found a GF like this and its been wonderful. We talk about so much, its incredible...and sometimes confusing. She is special, but somehow I keep calling her my girlfriend. Any thoughts or am I just being my usual goofy self?
Thanks

Well, a girlfriend can be an SO. Nothing wrong with saying girlfriend. I refer to my wife as my wife, not as my SO.

Hi, DeeDee -

Donna is correct, your girlfriend can be your SO, or you can keep referring to her as your GF . . . whichever you prefer. If your GF were to join the Forum, she would be able to use either the GG or SO tag, whichever she prefers.

Generally, though, I think most people use the terms GF and GG (and BF = boyfriend) to indicate that they're still in the 'dating' mode, not quite sure if it's going to be a long-term relationship, etc. At this Forum, most members equate the SO tag as being either a wife, long-term, or 'soul mate' partnership. In the case of myself and Virginia, we're not married (but are living together), we had a Commitment Ceremony, and we are most definitely soul-mates and in a long-term relationship . . . we gladly use the SO tag!! @@9@@

Keep on being your goofy self, hon, it's all part of your charm! =D>

Silver Lady hit it right on the nose. My GF is here to stay, so she is my SO and soulmate. In public she is my "companion" when the question comes up.

Its simple really, while there is no limit to the number of GFs you can have (though try not to let them meet) you only can have one SO at a time.

A SO is just that.... a SIGNIFICANT other. A GF can be a GG who is your friend (non-sexual), your actual girlfriend, or just a girl you are casually dating to see if you want her to be in your life "full time".

I'll say this.... From my experience, it's much better for everyone involved if GGs find out about CDing when they are still GFs, rather than SOs. That's where the distinction really matters.

If a person is a significant part of your life, meaning you share your life and secrets with that person, I think you can safely call them a SO, regardless of whether you live together, how long you've been together, or your marital status. Until you reach that intimate moment where you feel that person is truly an integral part of your life, the more casual GF label is more appropriate.

Thanks for a lot of thoughtful responses. I guess my GF is an SO :) :lol: and golly gosh..thats not bad at all. SL....I'll continue to refer to her as my GF at work and such. Tekla..been there done that...surprised I'm still alive. I've had your usual GFs in the past, but my SO is special now. Oh...and maybe I'm wacko, but always had DeeDee in the equation for relationships.....I feel so bad for those having to come to grips with it now. It wasn't a selfish thing on my part, but knew how complicated it could become and wanted to avoid the pain and such for my partner. Bottom line..Im one happy girl now and hope it continues. There is always hope....worked for me (so far):)

SL lol...the Stones sang that song...."stay off of my cloud". Yours is wonderful, and mine also. There are thousands of clouds, maybe millions...one for everyone, you just have to dream and sometimes you can find your cloud.
