Femulation
Hi All,
See KathrynCleve’s post on the forum. Her link to her blog site is: http://kdcleve.blogspot.com/2007/01/why.html
Not only is it a good, well-written story that is a reprise of many of our own personal stories, but it contains a word that, as far as I can tell, makes it’s first appearance in our English lexicogaphy.
Femulate: to emulate a woman; to dress in woman’s clothes; to crossdress (M2F).
I think that this word should become part of our vocabulary. If nothing else, it is more euphonious than “crossdress”, and less pejorative than “transvestite.” Just consider the grammatical variations that can be included:
A condition: Femulation.
A continuing action: Femulating
Wearing only female underwear: Underfemulate or Subfemulate
One who: Femulator
Opposed to: Anti-Femulator
I am sure our readers will come up with a plethora of variations.
Hugs, and have a femulatory day,
Thanks KathrynCleve
Lydia
PS: Oops. Sorry. I just Googled "femulate", and it evidently has been around for some time. Still, it is useful and convenient.

While I too like the word, I belive the reason you've never heard it before is because I've yet to find it in any dictionary that I have. I even tried to find it on the internet and not found it yet. I think it is one she created which, of course, is how words get made.
I support the idea of using it to express how femulating I am.

I'm sure there are some women who are going to be offended by the concern of transgendered men no matter what you call it, so I wouldn't use that as the measure for adopting or rejecting a proposed term! It's interesting, though, because I don't see as much negative reaction to drag which is more of a parody of femininity and more likely to hit frilly or slutty extremes.
I agree that the word "femulate" has a more pleasing tone and connotation than cross-dressing but there's also something creepy about it that undermines these virtues. There's no one woman that I'm emulating, and I like to believe that being feminine is not about being female. I can be feminine, so it's not emulation.

Just consider how useful this word femulate is.
You can use it to denote quality, i.e., degree of femulation. For example, I can say that Jeannie is a much better femulator than I am.
What are you doing at the moment - answer: I'm femulating.
A place of refuge for femulators is a femulatorium.
The possibilities are legion. We could drive this into the ground and become terrafemulators.
Hugs to my fellow femulators,
Lydia

I agree with some of what you have said. Yet, I don't see it as "femulating one particular woman." But rather femulating womanhood in general. I may be mistaken but I tend to think that was the original essense of the word introduced.Kimberly Kael wrote: I agree that the word "femulate" has a more pleasing tone and connotation than cross-dressing but there's also something creepy about it that undermines these virtues. Yet, in a way, we all emulate those who are around us. Many emulate their parent or parents, many a person they greatly admire, etc. So I think we all do it whether we choose a word to define it or not.
And, Femulating womanhood is certainly what each of us are doing to some degree when we put on female clothes to cover our male bodies. Likewise, what you say is correct about being feminine and it not being emulation. So maybe it is the two sides of the same coin.

Sorry, gals, but I'll pass on "femulate." It's fun to play with the word, but there are at least three sound-alike sexual vocabulary words that immedialtely come to mind, and I don't think I'd be the only one to make that association. I also end of thinking of femulators as Terminators, and nicknames for a certain California governor, and yet another biological process, ovulation...I think I can hear the jokes about this on talk radio, even as I write.

I started my blog, http://femulate.blogspot.com, in February 2007, and made up the word "Femulate" to name my blog.
At the top of my blog, I define femulate thusly: fem·u·late (fem´ya-lat´) v., To imitate, copy, or try to be like a female.
The words "femulator," "femulation," "femulating," etc. are derived from "femulate."
Have fun!

Welcome to the right place, Staci.
Good to have you on board, and I think your word "femulate" deserves a lexicographic prize of some sort.
For some strange reason, clicking on your link does not work, but:
http://femulate.blogspot.com/
works nicely. Excellent web site.
Hugs,
Lydia

Hi, Staci, and welcome to the Forum . . . I have skimmed over your blog, prior to approving you for membership, and I liked what I saw and read.
Just a suggestion, but you might want to wander over to the New Members section and introduce yourself to everyone!
