Anyone see this movie before? Barbra Streisand plays a young Jewish woman who has to disguise herself as a man in order to study and exist in a man-run world. It's really good, and they're finally rerelesing it. Thought I'd throw a youtube link here to a behind the scene video in case anyone's intrigued.

Yentl is my group's movie selection for this month. I've been doing some research, and the story originated with Isaac Bashevis Singer's "Yentl the Yeshiva Boy". It was adapted into a (non-musical) Broadway show in the 1970s, starring Tovah Feldshuh. It is from this that Barbra Streisand adapted her movie, though she changed A LOT. When Mr. Singer heard that Ms. Streisand wanted to adapt his story for the screen, he sent her a screenplay he had written. She rejected it line for line, then proceeded to rewrite the story. Not surprisingly, Mr. Singer hated the movie.
