More on "He's A Lady"

Post by Jamie Ann »

I was watching a program I had recorded on my VCR, and when it ended, Oprah Winfrey was on the television. To get right to the point, she was doing a segment on a new TBS reality show called “He’s a Lady”, which Dixie Darling (a participant on this forum) had mentioned a while ago. This show involves a group of men dressed as women and seeking to learn from their dressing experiences. At the end of the series, one “lady” will be chosen as the winner. Here is a blurb from the show’s producers:

The He’s A Lady’s competitors will learn something new about what it’s like to live as a lady, from dealing with bras and jewelry to bonding with real women in typically all-female activities. Weekly challenges for the competitors will include learning how to behave like a lady, followed by going out in public to find out how convincing they are; being trained how to be a supermodel; planning a real wedding and then being asked to serve as the bridesmaids; and, finally, completing a multi-tasking challenge back in their hometowns where the guys must remain in character in front of family and friends. During the show the competitors will live in “The Doll House,” a beautifully decorated dwelling designed to help them get in touch with their feminine sides. Contestants will be eliminated via the decisions of a celebrity panel of judges comprised of Morgan Fairchild, John Salley, and Debbie Matenopoulos. The series, hosted by Tony Frassrand, will climax with a beauty pageant, where the competition boils down to the quarter-million-dollar question: “What, as a lady, have you learned about being a man?” The judges will then select the best man in the group, based on a variety of criteria.

It is hard to say whether this show will be of any interest to the CD community. If the producers just pander to the typical reality-show viewer, who might be equally interested in seeing someone eat raw lizards and a male dress as a woman, then it will not be very appealing. On the other hand, if they were to explore issues of gender and gender presentation seriously, it could be worthwhile. We will see.
Take care,

Jamie Ann

It does look more intersting now that I saw more of the program on Opera. I found it intersting on how the oen guy propused to his girlfriend and then Opera pluged the company that sold or donated the ring.
