The last several months I have been having my nails done at a salon (crystal) and I go every 2 weeks for fills. Lately I have been pushing the envelope a bit more by having my nails rounded more as well as not having them shortened quite as much. The last month I even got a very light pink nail polish on them (but just one coat and not blatent). My toenails I have done darker pink as no one sees them.
I have not had any comments about my finger nails while en-drab up until recently. What happened was someone just asked me out of the blue about who does my nails. I was shocked that someone noticed as it has been a long time and no one has noticed. Fortunately I stayed calm on the outside and without hesitation just said that my wife does them. I then made him think it was her idea. He then said he wishes he had someone who could do that for his nails. Whew!! I'm relieved that I was able to keep an even keel and not arouse suspicion but believe me inside I was a little nervous. I guess it's all part of being a woman when dressed. The nails are there to remind me that Steffie always is lurking close by.
Hi Steffi:
I, too, have experienced similar comments. I am fortunate that my nail beds have always been long and my nails naturally strong. For a few years my nails have been kept rounded and just on the verge of too long for endrab. Periodically my wife will remind me that I need to trim them a little. They just grow so fast that sometimes I just don't notice how long they have gotten. My workplace is mainly women and few ever comment and those that do are along the line that "I wish my nails were that nice!" My standard comment is just a smile and a thank you. It is just a small way of expressing myself comfortably for me.
Later!!

Just the other day at Lowes, the checkout girl noticed my nails. She asked if they were acrylic or gel, where did I get them done, and how much. I told her. My wife then told her I also get a pedicure when I go. She was holding my hand and looking at my nails. She told me they were nice and suggested that I get a sutle Pink polish on them to highlite them. So on my next salon visit, I had my nail tech put Sally Handsons Cotton Candy on them. It looks really great.
When I was more active (I am hibernating just now) I kept my nails shaped etc at a conservative length of 5mm of nail beyond the finger tip.
Nobody ever said a thing. I worked in an office full of women ranging in age from 18 to 44. I got a few comments now and then, but they were directed at me in a general fun way as opposed to a direct comment about any feature of my appearance. But judging from their fun comments, I think they had sussed me out. But it never bothered them.
I left that job a year ago now, but I am still in touch with some of the girls.
Once a month I get mine cut back to about 1/8" past my tips. Over the month they will get to almost 1/2" past my tips. On my last salon visit, I had the nail tech put a sutle Pink polish on my nails. No one not even my wife and sister or anyone at work has noticed.
I use clear varnish on my hand nails and I also tend to let my nails grow longer than most males. I have never had anyone other than my wife notice. I don't think I could get away with a color there.
