Ed and I were unloading the dogs from the car, for a walk along the beach, when an older man approached us. Ed was 100% DRAB...parka coat, trainers, jeans and beanie hat. He was bending over fixing a lead on one of our dogs when the man said "excuse me girls, where is the 'pay and display' machine for parking?" ! Should have seen his face when Ed stood up ..OO..  Was quite funny! Ed has a very cute girly butt :P

I often get mistaken for a woman, it could be because i have been doing it since i was very little, but I go to a local dance club with one of my closest girlfriends and I get asked out as much as she does, infact the doorman lets us in for free because he has a slight crush on me! hhehe!
The sad thing is if i ever told him, it would break his heart and i would never want that.

Until a couple of years ago I had long wavy brown hair with streaks of a blondish sort of grey just starting to come through giving it a look of having streaks which often drew comments by women of how they would love to have my hair.

As a man I usually kept it tied back but occasionally I would just let it hang free. Being tall and slim I would often get mistaken for a woman from behind or from the side, but when I would turn around then I wouldn't know who was more embarrassed, me or them.

The day I cut it, due to other responsibilites, was like having a limb amputated, I've never really been the same since.

Depends on what precisely you mean by 'in drab'. Even if I'm not wearing the full skirt-stockings-heels, I may choose to wear tight and 'feminine' looking shirts and pants, and maybe a mesh or fishnet under-top if my arms are shaved. I have a somewhat feminine figure with a bit of natural boy-cleavage. I usually wear my hair long or sometimes cut in a 'carmine' (long in the front, short in the back) which is a fairly common style for both male and female Goths but rare outside the culture, and I often have it dyed in obviously fake colours like violet, cobalt blue, deep blue-black, or fire-engine red. I have been known to wear gothic-style makeup, and I usually wear very dark sunglasses during the day. Add a long swirling trench coat, and it's no surprise that I sometimes confuse people as to my gender (an occurrance which always causes me to grin). I have literally had people ask me, 'are you a boy or a girl?' (My standard answer to this question being 'Yes.')

By "en drab," I meant typical male attire with no deliberate effort to appear feminine. For example, when I'm "en drab," I'm typically in full male attire, with small stud or loop earrings, and very short to short hair.

When "en femme," I'm usually dressed in feminine clothes and shoes, with a wig, cleavage, makeup, nails, and larger hoop or dangle earrings.

Usually when this happens to me it is during some akward moment.

Like the other day my wife and I were dining out and the waitress said "How are you ladies doing this evening?"

Or just during the few times when I DON'T want to be seen as a woman, such as being with my family or relatives.

I wish! Even with longish hair, earrings, red fingernails,
etc., I STILL get called "Sir".

For some reason, I am unable to hear myself when I speak,
and I use a "semi-falsetto" voice, (better to hear myself) especially while on the telephone. Very common to be referred to as "Ma'am"
while on the phone.

Violets post put me in mind of an inter racial friend of mine. When asked if she considered herself black or white she would say no, that she considered herself to be black and white, just like you can be Irish and Italian.

I get called ma'am all the time. Especially at work. I am a nurse and I don't know if it is because of the way people think of the field or if it is my behavior, looks or whatever.

If you have never worn scrubs, you would be surprised at how people look the same in them. Men or women. Anyway, I don't usually comment on it and let it go by.

I also understand myself enough to know that I can take on similar characteristics of those I am around and considering that the bulk of my co-workers are female it only stands to reason that I have picked up some female mannerisms in my life.

I have been mistaken for a lady so often that I can't keep tabs. I have never been a "manly" looking man. I wear loose jeans and T/sweat shirts all the time, so its not the clothes. I know I'm "soft" looking, but I never really figured out what people are seeing that leads them to think I'm a lady. It used to make me mad, but now I enjoy watching their reactions when they find out otherwise.

Up until about a month ago, I've been periodically addressed as "Miss" or "Ma'am" or referred to as "the lady" while at my second job as a sales associate in a large warehouse club.

The most recent occasion was by an acquaintance who should have known better. His wife offered to let me whack him with a 2x4 to straighten him out.

At that time my hair was about 5 inches long. It's naturally curly so it can have a feminine appearance when that long. Since then I got a 3/4 inch buzz cut. No one has addressed me or referred to me in the feminine sense since the haircut. So apparently, when my hair is several inches long, I appear feminine, even when not purposefully attempting to.

I hardly wear male clothes anymore. Even by letting my hair grow out now...for some reason I still look like an androgynous male. I look inthe mirror and see a female more now than ever.
I have never been mistaken for a woman....yet.
