In a couple of weeks (on August 4th, to be exact), this forum will celebrate its 5th anniversary.
We've not only survived but thrived in the "here-this-minute-gone-the-next" world of web sites. It's quite an achievement.
Thanks are due to the "Founding Father" and "Founding Mother," Shannon and GalicianGirl (whom many of us still call "Sharon") for setting up this safe haven in the first place. In doing so, they've had a positive impact on more lives and on more relationships than they can know. Shannon and Sharon: from the bottom of my heart, thank you!
Kudos to all those--past and present--who've also had a hand in making this place the community it is. Your input--your ideas and opinions; your laughter and your tears--is invaluable. Many come here in order to both seek port in a storm as well as to be a lighthouse in the fog. I'm never as proud to call myself a human being as when I think of the souls I've met here. You've helped me see how beautiful this world can be, even when I struggle through my darker days. There is little, in my mind, that surpasses the pure joy that true friendship brings. And there is friendship to be had here. In spades. Friendship, a sense of community, and--at times--much needed emotional support.
A special mention goes out to those who were here in the early months of the forum and who are still here, after all this time. You know who you are (and you're either dedicated or obssessed!
Thanks to all who gave Sharon a hand in running the show by walking the boards in the occasionally uncomfortable shoes of a Moderator. An especial thank you to those who wear or have worn the occasionally painful shoes of an Administrator... by name: Gracie, SilverLady, and Caith. (Just so you all know, I was once being groomed for the position but turned it down, it scared me so!)
Finally, a word of rememberance. Some--thankfully, a very, very few--of our members are no longer with us, neither here nor in the "real world" (which makes me wonder which world has more reality to it). I think of them often and this makes me all the more grateful for this place.
Sharon, you and hubby did good. Here's to the next five years!
Love,
CJ
