Which Wig?

Post by Erica S »

Can anyone tell me what is a good wig to get for the beginner? I do not want to spend a lot of money nor do I wish to get something that looks cheap. I found a CD website and was thinking of getting one from there:

Suddenly Fem - Wigs (W206)

I would appreciate any help in my decision process.

Thanks

Erica

Hi, Erica -

Those wigs look nice, but we won't be able to tell you which would look better on you without knowing what you look like . . . and you don't have any photos in the gallery to help us out. ***huh***

I do know that Virginia buys all of her wigs from Paula Young, high quality but not overly expensive. Another good company is The Wig Company. I know there are other companies out there, so it's best to shop around.

Best to spend a few dollars more for quality and workmanship and be happy, than to go inexpensive and have the wig be poorly made and look 'cheap'.

Good luck!

Post a photo of yourself or PM it to me, taken from a similar face-on angle as the wig's photo in the link, and I'll photoshop it for you, so you can get an idea of what it'd look like on you.

I have bought several wigs from Paula Young. Their prices and quality are good. As long as you don't take the labels off, you can ship them back for a refund. The synthetic wigs are fine, easy to take care of. Personally I just don't like the idea of wearing someone else's hair, so I go for the synthetics.

Have fun,

Hugs,

Lydia

I buy my wigs from either the Wig Company or Paula Young. They are decently priced and good quality.

If you would like opinions from us on which style would suit you, please post a photo in the gallery.

Well I have to agree with all of the above, I have two wigs from Pauls Young and just love them. I prefer the synthetic as they are pre styled and easy to care for. Only bad thing about a synthetic wig you have to be careful about and that's never take a brush to it or you lose the style. My wife help me pick out the last wig as she didn't like my first one I picked out. =D>

Nice price, so not a lot of money to waste when experimenting.

Another thing to think about, besides those mentioned above, is your neck length. Seems to me that the longer hair wigs work best for those with longer and thinner looking necks.

You might want to google: "how to select a wig" to read about other FAQs, like face shape, eye color, etc.

I've never bought an expensive wig (over $50). Many have come from e-bay. They do require some care, and I learned the hard way never to stand even momentarily under a heat lamp (ruined a perfectly good short pageboy that way; the hairs on the top actually melted). In fairness, I prefer straight or gently wavy hair, and I do brush/comb as needed.

I've had 19 good years of service out of one $35 wig, though the elastic has finally lost much of it's stretch.

The wig you pointed to is absolutely adorable. In fact, I'm very tempted to get one myself. They also have W204 for under $13 (before S&H).

Hugs,

Bernice

I just couldn't be certain I would be happy with a wig without trying it on!!
Must be just me.....
But I found a shop and they were very helpful for both my wigs.
I went in 'and did my own makeup for the first one. For the second, I went in 'en feme' and picked something of similar length but a darker color and wavy. I like them both! I don't think I would have picked the second one if I only aw a pic of it. But on me it looks reaaly nice!
