Francis,

The main thing about make up is that is requires practice practice and more practice - why do you think teenage girls spend so much time on war paint? I too was like you about my eyes but after many tries I now manage to to a reasonable job in a reasonable time. As far as I know there is no short cut to eye make up. Look in the links section here for some useful places to look at. You have a priceless resource in your wife. I suggest you listen to her.

Best wishes
Susan

Close your eyes so you can't see her coming. And relax.

I did that when in high school. Had a part in a play, so a few of the girls applied makeup to everyone. Worked pretty well to get past the nervousness.

Took me a long time to get eye liner on without poking out my eyes :P

Most of have had the occasions when we end up looking like pandas, if you can keep your eyes closed and get over the initial discomfort then the end result will be more than worth it; and it is a wonderful way of shareing with your wife

Eye make up doesn't have to be everything you can do to an eye. You can start with the easier and less "troublesome close to the eye" stuff by starting with eye shadow. Then maybe, you can move on to mascara and maybe do more complicated eye shadow things such as the highlights between your nose and the eye. The spot you would brighten to open the look of your eyes.

There are so many things you can do and still not get close enough to poke your eye out :) Just take your time and try things to get comfortable and to learn how the make up works.

My wife wants to try air brushed make up. I wonder if that works for eyes?

I can't quite see how it would, but I have no idea how that works.

Stencils....? I have two air brushes, so I am familiar with that as applied to art.

A few servos, some software and a head sized spray booth. A bit of technology and applying makeup becomes a lost art...

I will shut up now as I am not making sense.
