Love that bumper sticker

Post by Debbie Jean »

I saw bumper sticker in the Costco parking lot yesterday which said: "My dog has better manners than your kid". In many ways sad but true.

Sadly I think is so very true anymore. My wife and I would always gets compliments on our kids manners when they were grown up so you know that if people were noticing that they weren't seeing a lot of it. We see it all the time where live that kids and I mean even older ones into adults just don't have any manners. My wife won't go to certain stores or restaurants anymore because of the number of ill mannered people in them.

You see it in everything anymore and it reflects badly on some businesses because they have help who don't have manners. When our son was a store manager he let a person go because they were just to rude to customers. Even after he had a talk with them about it.

Manners start at home, something that has to be taught. Although by a certain age common curtesy should be there it just isn't a lot of times.

I think that the general disappearance of good manners in society is linked to the increase in faceless interaction between individuals (electronic communication) and the decrease in face-to-face communication.
As an example, at this one place I worked (before I started my own business) my boss didn't talk to me for an 8-month stretch, although he communicated via email daily and sometimes several times a day. When I would catch him in the hallway and tell him that I wanted to talk about something, his response would be: "Gotta go, just shoot me an email". OK, I understand that e-communication is often the only way practical means, but I also think sometimes it is overdone. Well that's my 2 cents worth, so I'll get off my soap box now and go home.

thanks for listening,
Deb
