Had a feeling, intuition its called - right? Voice said, "go to Goodwill, go to Goodwill!' So being a good little soilder - I went to Goodwill! Girls, listen to the voice!! Not much, but I did find a cami that actully fits and a beautiful pair of camel colored, low-rise slacks that are just a bit tight! Incentive to keep losing weight.
Women's intuition - comes with the territory right!?

Hi Deborah,

Goodwill, is that the same as our charity shops here in England ? This morning I saw a geogious black evening dress, but... size 10 !! 10 ?. That's not even a joke

Iv'e eaten next to nothing all week and still put on 3 pounds. ~D~ is twisting my arm to go to the doctors, could be the tablets I'm on, they are supposed to inhibit weight loss.

Still, it was a nice dress.

Can't resist a bargain, keep the antennas up and the intuition working, who knows what else will turn up

Yes, Goodwill along with the Salvation Army have stores that sell used, donated clothing and other items, the money (or part of it) going to charity. There are also, independent stores, and many churches and hospitals in some areas have thrift shops

Connie, Is that a new avatar? Very cute ..... Love the dress and the pose. We have Goodwil, I like goodwill some stores are very nice, But you gotta watch those seams, like my mom used to say. Most of my clothes are either goodwill or Are or American Veterans thrift store. I 've noticed that the wedding dresses at goodwill are much more than they used to be, I bought one a few years back for $34 and saw one last week for $ 350 . W0W quite a jump. ..... Kristen

I've used it for a few weeks but not posted much for it to be seen. It is a saved pose from a site that allows you to try on dresses. This was a site for wedding dresses.

Yes, I hear it. I hear the cry of the sale item begging to be freed from the sale rack. Or that little hidden dress that no one seen at the Salvation Army Thrift Store.

I have to be honest here, I just love the shopping. I love looking at womens clothes and imagining what I would like to wear, or what I think would look good on me. I know, it's another one of those "anti-boy" traits of mine. Even in Jr High School I used to go shopping by myself, even when I had no money, to stores like Big Lots. I would stay there for hours. Secretly looking at girls clothing.

Some things never change. I still love shopping, and I hear the call of the shopper warrior.

Hi all,

In the area around the Buffalo, NY area are thrift stores associated with Salvation Army, Goodwill, and AMVETS (American Veterans). The wedding gowns they have are way too small and the cheap ones start at $75. In defence of their high prices, the ones I have seen appear to be complete with accessories, in excellent condition, and my wife says that they were really expensive when new - at least $1000.

There are also a fair number of second hand/consignment stores, but I haven't been in them.

Numerous area churches have at least annual rummage sales, but it seems interest in them is fading - our church had few donations this year, (even with a few donations from Jadeanne) and shoppers numbered a few dozen instead of a few hundred like 10 years ago.

A nearby church has a thrift store area in their basement that's open on a weekly basis plus it's open during dinners and other church events. My wife and I are well known at the church, so we don't buy very much there.

You mentioned ARE - could you please tell us what that stands for?

Jadeanne, Sorry that was a typo, It was supposed to be ARC. I have no idea what it stands for , it may be American Retarded Citizens?????? I 'm not sure? Do you have them in New York? But they are very nice thrift stores. And their all over the Denver area, even one in Greeley. I have bought quite a bit this summer from them , they had summer clothes sale. I got 6 tops, 4 pairs of jeans ,(2 drab, 2 girls) 13 pairs of earings, two necklaces , and black western dress for $30. fun for me!! I love shopping too!! .......Kristen

The common term in AUS is " op shop " short for " opportunity shop" , the common op shops here are ;

Salvo's family stores ( salvation army )
Savers
St Vincent De Paul
Red Cross

There are also many private charity shops scattered throughout the community.

HI all,

One of our best bargains was at a local rummage sale that ~D~ and myself found. There was 3 tressle tables crammed with clothes and we were told that for £1 we could fill a carrier bag.
I can tell you that no carrier has ever held so much, we squeezed 30 items into it. When we got home it was like xmas, straight into the bedroom trying things on.
My intuition is telling me to go and see if there is another sale on, or maybe it's just wishfull thinking

Thank you for the clarification on ARC. As far as I know, there aren't any in the Buffalo NY area that I've found.

The bag sale (everything that the buyer can stuff in a bag for a fixed price) is a usual thing during the final stage of a rummage sale, at least around here. I know that for our church rummage sales in the past years, we would have a sale starting on a Friday evening and charge a small $0.50 US admission fee. There was no admission fee on Saturday and during the final couple of hours was the bag sale - all you could stuff into a grocery bag was $1.

There is a charitable organization in the area that has a huge annual book sale that runs a week. The first day, admission is $10, then each day it goes down and the final couple of days are free admission, and the final day is a $2 a bag sale.

The main reason behind the bag sale is to dispose of as many things as possible. At our church rummage sale, a group of volunteer church members pack up the remins and several members with trucks and/or station wagons take them to Salvation Army and AMVET donation centers.
