How many Anime fans are here?

Post by Calina_Leigh »

I just thought that I would throw this out. My collection at it's height was worth from 4-5Gs. Of course that was before I got married and had my daughter. That was also before DVDs really became main stream. I am currently watching Naruto(a fan sub). Also I am the only one with Anime for a liscense plate in MI. Ok time to dig deep into my psyche, I really had a thing for Sasami from Tenchi Muyo because I wanted to be her. She was a princess and cute. Also, there is a lot of anime with gender switching. Ranma 1/2 for example. There is also a lot of anime with crossdressing but not as a focal point but part of the plot I, My, Me Strawberry Eggs for example. So my question to you all, do you watch anime and what kind do you like?

I enjoy much the anima (the animatrix is a good example) but I like the recent academy (nomine or winer) The spirit with in (english title). I also like the Ghost in the Machine and looking forward to the sequal that just came out. I love Ranma 1/2 because of the fact that when cold water is dumped on him he becomes a she. Very cool I think sometimes.

I've noticed (and I'm certain that you have too) that Anime was originally the Japanese way of getting around their anti-porn laws. Their laws forbid exposure that we consider racy R material. So in answer to that they started creating anime as a way around the law. *chuckle* ( I could be wrong about this, but this is what I've been tld by anime fans when I've helped store material for A-Kon, a local annual anime convention.)

Amazingly enough, serious movie quality anime spawned from that and has gained lots of popularity. This is the kind of anime that I prefer. Something with a good story and artistic taste to it. :) A good example would be Ghost in the Shell. Personally I can't wait for Ghost in the Shell II to come out here in america. :) Going to have to talk a friend into buying it so I can borrow it if I still don't have any disposable income. ;)
Sig? What sig?

After I watch Adult Swim (the comedy stuff), my television time is pretty much shot for the evening, though I sometimes run into the very beginning or very end of some anime series on Cartoon Network.

:: raises hand ::

Yes, I'm a HUGE anime fan. :) So much so I've gone to a Sci-Fi convention dressed in a anime mask and outfit. :) It was so much fun! :)

Before Calina came to be, I had a friend that would cosplay. I am not sure if he was a CD'er or just really into anime but I was so envious of him because he would cosplay as female characters and knew how to make his own costumes. Dang, I really want to get a sewing machine and relearn how to use it. I hate being poor.

Hi Calina,

In your picture with your child you look like the richest person I've ever seen. :)
