Questions..body shapers and hair

Post by Charla »

What has been your experience in buying full body shapers? I look at them occasionally and wonder how well they may fit. It just seems like a lot of money to spend and then not have the garment fit right. Does anyone have suggestions on a particular brand that works well for CDers?

I am growing my hair out. Been letting it get longer for the past 4 months. It's filling in quite nicely! How do I coach my beautician on shaping it up? I'd like to get a hairdo that can look OK in guy-mode but then can be fixed up for Charla-mode. Do you let the top get longer and just trim the sides?

Hugs to all!

Love, Charla

Charla, I wish I could help with the hair thing, But I will let someone with hair answer that. Body shapers I can help. Are you looking for a waist trimmer. Or maybe more of hip and bum pads. I am extrememly thin, ( I have to run in the shower to get wet) so use bum and hip pads and a waist cincher. It seems the more I use the waist cincher the less I need it. I never have bought a complete body shaper, I went to Penneys and Sears to buy my cinchers, the girls there were very nice and helpful. I went in drab, a few wierd looks and then they helped for the sale. Playtex and Hanes are the brands I have bought. Hope this helps let us know what you decide. The only thing I would have a problem with a complete body shaper, is if I have to tinkle when I am out and about. That's alot foundations to remove to just tinkle. Kristen

Hi all,

Charla,

There are many brands of shapewear, from the more expensive Rago lines to the more affordable Playtex body briefers, etc.

My suggestion is that you walk into a lingerie department knowing your measurements in advance. Here's a useful sizing chart:

Good luck!

Hi all,

CJ,

I followed the link and think it's a really good, informative one.

Charla,

In regard to foundation garments, I have a long torso and have generally used multiple pieces - longline bra, open bottom girdle (I'm a garter girl and it makes bathroom visits a little easier), and a boned waist cincher to bridge the bra - girdle gap. Sometimes I go with a non longline bra and use an extra waist cincher up high to get the same effect.

I do have a Rago open bottom 6 garter (wiggle-in) body briefer and it does stretch to fit.

Most of my waist cinchers are Jaclyn Smith from Kmart (on sale).

During the times I wear pantyhose, I wear one of several cheap panty girdles to keep the pantyhose up, and a waist cincher to keep the waistband from rolling down (none of them are high waisted, but this method works for me).

My head is follicle-challenged and I have several blonde wigs, so I can't offer any advice on your hair question.

Hi,

My favourite subjects, how did you know?

I would buy an all in one from Berlei or Playtex.

Dont be taken in by the claims manufacturers make, the claim is aimed at a RG and is always overstated.

I prefer a playtex light control for all day use.

On the hair side of things, if you haven't grown it with the cooperation of your hairdresser then get along there now girl!

Hair needs to be trimmed as you grow it longer. It needs good conditioning, and you wont get that out a bottle, its important to eat the right things. Pleanty of Omega 3 from fish, and drink loads of water. Avoid sugary food too.

Just tell the hairdresser what your planning.

Take care

The points made by Kristen, CJ, Jadeanne, and Kerri all are well taken. I would just add that the preferences of CDs vary so much that it is hard for anyone to advise anyone else without knowing what kind of “look” that person wants to achieve. My own general preference is to approximate the appearance of genetic women as best I can. I am fairly slim in the waist, but for occasions where I want to look my best, I definitely wear a waist cincher, and I virtually always wear a four pad panty girdle. A genetic woman of my height and weight would probably be about 36-28-39 in bust-waist-hip sizes. I cannot possibly achieve those proportions, but I can get in the right ballpark by using a waist cincher and hip padding, while going very easy on bust enhancement. (Regarding the latter, I use A-cup silicone breast forms, going for shape rather than size). Your “best” choices will depend on your own personal “figure goals.”  Best wishes! (Note — the text fragments of a different color above are links, which will take you to the Fredericks of Hollywood items in question.)
Take care,

Jamie Ann

Great advice Jamie Ann! I use a real corset and the Classic Curves Veronica. I have broad shoulders and need big boobs and hips to balance them. As you can see:

Hi all,

There is a question I would like to ask of any of our members who wear the closed bottom body briefers:

Some of the more expensive garments have a split or side crotch opening, but lower priced ones have a hook and eye closure.

Is it very difficult to undo the hook and eye crotches for bathroom visits and then redo them when done, or is it Mission Impossible?

I saw a couple of them in the latest Lane Bryant catalog that are in my price range, but I would like to read of some experiences before spending my money.

Wow what a response! Thanks to everyone! You all are so cool! =D>

Dear Jadeanne,

I have had some experience with both types of closures. I don't like the bottoms with the unfastened opening because everything spills out, if you know what I mean. I like the garments with closures. I generally don't have a problem fastening the hook and eye closures when wearing slacks. I haven't gone out in public yet wearing a skirt, but in private it seems to be even easier. Good luck !

Hi all,

Some kind soul on this forum suggested:
Frishman's Intimate Apparel - Bras, Panties, Girdles, Panty Hose and more. - www.frish.com

I've used them .
Excellent source. Prices reasonable, and they ship like lightening.

Love,

I'd like to ask one more question...what has been your best experience in picking the right size?

When I first tried girdles and shapers, I went way too small on the waist and it really hurt to wear them for very long (but it did reduce my waist size after a while  ). Now I shop for sizes that are about 4 inches smaller than my measured waist. That conflicts with the sizing charts, so girls...what works for you?

Hugs,

Carla

Charla,

I also generally get shapers that are about a waist size 4 inches smaller than my measured one and it seems to work out for me.

It seems that the last time Kmart had Jaclyn Smith boned waist cinchers at buy one get one 50% off, the 2 I got were larger than ones I bought previously that were marked the same size. The next time I'll go one size smaller than I did then.
