How do you hide the Deep Male Voice

Post by Gelinda »

Well I have been wondering about dressing, and war paint and the like but to me.

I will never be Marilyn Monroe or most likely not ever look like a lady at all. But how will I hide my very deep voice.

Gelinda.

Hi Gelinda and Beauty,

I haven't tried that program. But I have met Calpernia Addams and Andrea. And let me tell you, if I hadn't been told, I would never have suspected that either one was anything but a GG! Both have beautiful, feminine voices.

I've been told that mine isn't bad either. Here are some of the secrets:

1. DON'T try to talk too high. Avoid the Minnie Mouse squeak! Rather, find the top of your normal speaking voice. If it's rather low, don't worry about it. Have you ever noticed that many tall women have rather low voices? Well, they do! You'll learn other tricks to compensate.

2. DON'T talk in a whisper. It doesn't sound feminine, it sounds suspicious! And when someone seems suspicious, it draws attention. Everyone wonders what is that suspicious person hiding? Bingo, you're half way to being read. Avoid that like the plague!

3. DO use higher pitch, rather than higher volume, for emphasis. I learned this technique from Melanie Phillips. It's one of the key differences between the way men and women speak.

4. DO learn some of the differences in vocabulary between men and women. To sum it up--be slightly less assertive. Say "I would like" rather than "I want." Figure the rest of the differences out on your own by listening to women. Most of the rest of the differences are regional-specific. Honestly! Men talk more or less the same all over North America. Women have more regional differences.

5. DO learn to end most of your sentences on a rising pitch. Put a "question mark tone" on the end of every sentence. Practice this.

6. DO learn to cross over your falsetto break for emphasis. Listen to the recordings of Billie Holiday from the 30s and early 50s. She mastered this technique over her lifetime, as have many GGs with naturally deep voices.

7. If your voice is still low, learn to add a breathy quality. Practice.

8. Practice, practice, practice. Get feedback and learn from it. Practice some more.

This will do it, although it may take a long time.
Love and respect,
Rikki
