Humidity & Perspiration - The Make-up Killer

Post by Hayley »

Hi Girls,
I'm desperate for advice here. I now live in a tropical state that has very high humidity, and, of course, the effects that humidity have on make-up is devastating  . Is there a moisturiser or foundation that holds make-up well when one perspires or is faced with immense outside humidity? I am in Australia so some products may not be readily available to me :  .

Thanks ever so much for any help.

I agree that finding makeup that works in humid, hot weather is difficult and important.

I will describe what I use. Since the exact product lines might not be available in Australia, I will describe the products in some detail.

How did I find them? Keep looking around, asking local CD friends, and so on. I had to try a lot of "toady" and "froggy" products before I happened on the right combination.

For my beard cover, I use Ben Nye foundation. It's stage makeup--oil-based, rich in color. I found a shade that contrasts well with my beard hair but matches (pretty close) my skin color, especially in the muzzle area. The trick to using this kind of product is not to use too much. Too much, and it will rub right off.

Over that, I use a really good breathable water-based foundation, L'Oreal Air Wear. Water-based makeup is a little like water-based house paint--once it dries, it pretty much stays on. It doesn't wash off with perspiration or even swimming! That's the important layer as far as humidity and heat goes--oil based makeup just can't stand up to the heat. Plus, it clogs the pores and traps the perspiration, leaving the face very wet. The natural urge is to wipe a wet face, and that wipes off the makeup. You know the story, I'm sure. With a breathable water-based foundation, the perspiration can evaporate or run off, without taking the makeup with it.

Finally, I apply a light coat of powder. Just personal preference, that.

This makeup regimen has stood up to swimming several times. Once, I even did 4 hours in a water park--splashing around in churning water, etc. At the end of that time, (without touching up my makeup) I went back into the women's dressing room to change back into street clothes--and no one batted an eye!
Love and respect,
Rikki
