Have a great fourth of july.Just make sure you let go quickly when throwing a cherry bomb! Nothing like an ash can to blow your hand completely off! No whimpy fire crackers for old geezers like me.

Even the cars were macho back in the day. No seatbelts,metal dashboards and radio knobs to gouge your eyes out when you split your head open on the dash. Crumple zones and air bags? We were the crumple zones when the steering wheel made its way into the back seat through you! Those were the days when men were men! You can't even buy a suicide knob anymore! If I can find one I'll put your avatar picture Anita on the knob. No naked pictures of women for this reporter!

Not quite true, Jeannie, as my DH has two of them (and the spinner knobs are now of a sturdier, albeit break-away, design). In order to get them, however, you must be physically handicapped, such as a stroke or other disability, be evaluated, have a doctor's written prescription, etc., etc. Although I am not supposed to be using the spinner knob while driving - because it is not 'licensed' for my use - I do so anyway, and I absolutely love it!!

If I can find one I'll put your avatar picture Anita on the knob.

Sorry, Jeannie and Anita - if I'm going to put a picture of anyone on my spinner knob, it will be that of my CD-soul mate!!

Hello rockers/music lovers?: I'm a music journalist and though what I cover generally falls in the areas of "folk" or "world," I know most of those names. So-- some of the ones still not guessed:
Alvin Lee: Ten Years After, Mitch Mitchell: Jimi Hendrix Experience, Butch Trucks: Allman Brothers Band. The others were guessed by Elizabeth and Anita and the few remaining ones I don't know.
There seem to be a lot of music oriented folks on this list.
Anyone else out there into British Isles folk/folk-rock like Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention, Richard Thompson, Albion Band, Oysterband? "Celtic" stuff like Capercaillie, Alan Stivell, Runrig, etc. etc.? Punk-folk like Billy Bragg or The Pogues?
What about "world" music from continental Europe or the middle east? klezmer?
Has anyone attended a music event "en femme?" concert, club gig, festival?
Is anyone else reading these posts involved in the music business?
Hope you all had a groovy July 4!! Here in the Washington, D.C. area the weather was our typical summer stuff-- hot'n'humid; late afternoon thunderstorm. Needless to say, I stayed in my air conditioned cocoon and finished up a CD review.

And Randy Rhodes.....
He started Quiet Riot and went on to play with Ozzy Osborne and started a new style of guitar play combining classical play and metal play. If you are lucky enough to have Tribute by Ozzy you have a sneek preview of what he was working on at the time.Others to walk in his footsteps are Steve Vie,Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) , even the Nugent has been caught incorperating some RR riffs. A truly great artest an one wewill all miss.

Randy Rhodes was a great guitar player. It was so sad he died at such a young age.
On another note Van If you like blues check out the title cut of the CD "Padlock on the blues" from John Mayhall from only a couple of years back. He has this young guy Buddy Whitington playing with him. Killer blues solo on that cut. He's smokin'! Hugs

Jeannie: I believe that STEELY DAN is named after a brand (?) of condom. Could be wrong, but I think I actually read that somewhere.
Looks like at least some CDers out there are metal heads. Not me. I respect the talent and skill of say, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, and know they were influenced by a lot of British/Celtic and "world music," but Led Zeppelin (mostly) leaves me cold. I have enjoyed some of Plant's solo stuff; he even headlined at a music business convention I attended in Newcastle, England last year.
My favorite guitarist would have to be Richard Thompson. He was a founding member of Fairport Convention, was in duo with his first wife Linda for several years (and recorded a series of superb albums with her) and after he split with Linda, went on to lead a productive solo career. Thompson is also an ace songwriter, who offers cogent and sardonic observations on relationships and the larger world too.
