For GG's--A Variation on an Old Question

Everyone's familiar with the old if you had a switch question that CD's and other TG's ask one another. Suppose that--say--tomorrow morning, everyone woke up with a toggle switch that could change them into a member of the opposite sex (and back) instantly. Goodbye SRS: if you ever felt like being a member of the opposite sex, you could hit the switch; as soon as you got tired of it, you could once again hit the switch; and so on.

I'm not going to ask the GG's here whether they might possibly be inclined to hit this switch: the question is simply too loaded. What I am asking is whether they would be surprised if, under the circumstances, a significant number of women (not a majority--maybe ten percent, for example) were at least tempted at one point or another (perhaps out of curiosity, a desire for a change in perspective, a sense of adventure, possibly something else, . . . ) to give the switch a try?

It does occur to me that, under said circumstances, one might validly conclude that no one was properly male or female any longer. If we could leave that point of view aside--I'm seeking a sense of people's feelings more than I am an analysis of the hypothetical.

I have to admit at certain times in my life I have wanted to be male. Mainly, when I was a child and watched my father beat up my mother and older sisters. Then I got older and stronger and defended my family to the point of lacerated scrotum, broken nose, and 4 broken ribs (on my father). :evil: I was 17 and was almost put in jail, until my father admitted he threw the first punch. Needless to say, there were no sons in my family.

I also get very irritated when I hear of my father-in-law saying remarks like "you wouldn't understand this mechanical jargon". That kind of stuff royally ticks me off. I was fixing my mother's vacuum cleaner at age 5. He was probably still looking up girls dresses!

Anyway, my point is, most GGs I know would only want to be a male because of the sense of feeling as the "weaker sex" from men like this. I can understand men wanting to be female more because we have more freedom, per se, than men. We can dress ANYWAY we like and no one says anything anymore. We can do any job we want or stay at home and be a housewife. We feel safe and secure with our hubbys by our side because we know that they will take care of us, or we can take care of ourselves. We have fewer boundaries than men do. I will say that many if not most women would at least try the switch once or twice, however you know the saying..."The grass is always greener on the other side." I think once they got a taste of being a male, they would realize being a female is the lesser of the two evils.

I have a couple of sisters who might might like to have been male under circumstances similar to yours. :x

If your father in law isn't simply trying to get under your skin, he may simply be expressing an insecurity common to a lot of men: "If she can do her own repairs, she'll actually expect me to be a decent human being in her presence!"

As much as CD's talk about how nice it might be to have such a switch, I suspect most would switch back quickly enough (although, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again ). It probably works both ways. Much of the unique experience of being female or male is a kind of constant that has been with each of us as far back as any of us has memories. It would be a little like all of the appliances at home that run unnoticed in the background suddenly turning off and an entirely different group of appliances coming to life in the same instant: some puzzling combination of sensory deprivation and sensory overload. At the very least, it would take some getting used to.

Well this is intersting!!!!

I wrote (I think as you all may know I write a lot) a story or at least I have the idea in my head I can not remember if I have placed it papper. about a PERSON who is male in the daylight (when the sun is up) but female when it is dark or night. Kind of a vampire Jekile/hyde story with out the horror.

Basically, this is a heterosexual female newspaper columnist who went "kinging" one night as part of a news story. I guess I am not too sure how much of what she wrote is a news creation, and how much is truly what she felt, but it is interesting. See in particular her comments while talking with the TS who found himself earning more money at the same job as a result of his switch.

My switch would just be for femme features (breasts, hips, hair) and makeup though. I'd keep the sex parts of my born sex.

Lefty, the original link was given on a thread from the CDDF about whether or not there were women who enjoyed dressing as men the same way men did as women. The short answer appears to be, "Yes", but they are not too obvious; It is easier for a woman to appear as a passable male (though on the shorter side) than the reverse. About a, hummm, year or so I guess, there was a similar article that involved a young male reporter of slender build who did the same as a woman. I was going to post that link with the other for contrast but it had gone to archive for the newspaper and I couldn't pull it up. He went to Miss Vera's first and wound up looking terrible and refused to go out. A couple of his young coworkers took over the job and made a decent appearing woman out of him with light but appropriate make-up (light facial hair and a close shave meant he didn't need the shoveled on pancake the "professional transformationists" put on him) and he had an enjoyable evening with the girls at a club. He reported on the way men responded to him and assumptions they made, which was also interesting. All part of the gender bending phenomenon in some of the larger cities I guess. You would NEVER find that in Texas (well maybe Dallas, Houston, and certainly around Austin with the capitol and all ).
