Announcement: A lifetime achievement
Seriously, my blood test results came back from the doctors' office today. For the first time EVER in my entire life, my cholesterol is below 200. It's been as high as 285 in the past, and nine months ago it was 248. This year's results say 186, and I'm finding it difficult to believe. For the second time in my life, I'm taking Zocor / Simvastatin to lower it, but this time it's actually working for me. Maybe being slightly more mindful of my diet is helping? (I'd like to think the estrogen therapy is helping too, but there's absolutely no way to prove that.)

Caith, that is indeed great news!! Mine never got very high, just at the low point of high levels, we both went on a modified Atkins diet and my levels dropped substantially back to "normal" levels, went back for a retest and the doctor said "just keep doing what you are doing". That was prior to my hormone therapy, so I can't say that helped any.

That's good Hon.
Hi Caith
My cholesterol is also sky high just like my Mother no matter how I eat. I go with the two pronged approach. I take Lipitor and Paxil. If my numbers are too high I don't care. It's great! Hugs.

That is fabulous news. I can understand your elation at the news that Zocor is working. I'm taking the maximum doses of three cholesterol drugs just to maintain it around 200, plus hours of exercise a week. make sure that you get your blood tests when scheduled. The statins cause liver problems. I once had a Doctor tell me to get help for my drinking and recommended AA. I found a new Doctor because it was the cholesterol drug Mevacor and not alcohol because I don't drink. Also Zocor is cheaper than the 3 stents in my heart.

Congratulations. Mine has gotten down again with diet (mostly) and exercise which doesn't seem to help that much. I have been hoping to avoid the medications since they can cause muscle pain which I already have. But I found that the diet was able to have a really big impact on it.
