Biographies sound like a good idea on the surface, but I tend to think it might open up a can of worms down the road. Security is one issue, but an inadverent detail in a posting mistake seems all too probable.
I dont care too much for myself as I have pretty much ceased to be concerned who knows about Sylvia. But I would prefer to choose who knows what just like in everyday life. If anyone wants to know PM or email to yur hearts content. I will trust you till you give me a reason not to.
My 2 cents.

Kinda of a no for me too.
I work in a secret facility and if someone made me I would lose my clearance and my job. First rule of thumb, never post anything you don't want your employer or future employer to see.
Many stories come out of employers who screen candidates and have half naked pictures from there my space page.

You're so right Hon.
Hi ChristineK
My Space is suicide if you want to keep your identity under wraps. It started out as a social networking sight by Tom Anderson and Chris Dewolf. After selling it to NewsCorp,Aka Rupurt Murdoch it turned into a marketing and information gathering powerhouse.
One of my GG friends posted a blog with news story quotes about Mr Murdoch's agenda for MySpace and they deleted her account the next day. I now get direct mail addressed to Jeannie. I just recieved a sample pack of tampons in the mail yestreday! Go figure.
There are companies that collect and sell the information to Human Resource managers.
Lets say you're a young woman straight out of law school. You go for an interview at a prestigious law firm. They like you and call you back for another interview. The next time you show up they have pictures of you on a balconey at Mardi Gras flashing your boobies and drunk as a skunk. You're toast!
I tell my daughter Katie,24 and son John Paul 21 to watch what they say and do on MySpace. It will go into your permanent record.
Hey Christine! Since you work in a secret facility say "Hi" to Dick Cheney for me! Is it cold and damp in an underground bunker?Hugs.
Love

Key to this would be that it is voluntary. So if you have security concerns you can either not post your bio or you can leave stuff out. I was thinking that most of the material is completely suitable for generalizations. Like I was born in the midwest in the 1950's as opposed to I was born in Terre Haute on February 17, 1954 and so on. It is usually possible to write a pretty good bio without going into any specifics that would reveal your identity.
Why anyone with a security clearance would put their picture here is beyond me, and to then go further and say that they work in a sensitive area is in my opinion playing with fire. If you don't want anyone to know it don't say it.
I think it would be fine to restrict this to members although I had no trouble joining or being granted access to restricted files. It's been a point of honor for me not to have another identity as a GG so I could read what they write about us but it would be easy enough to do. Likewise anyone looking to take advantage of anyone here would have a very easy time of it I suspect.

Hi all,
Absaroka's right. And not just about a bio section, but about any info you choose to submit to an internet site--even one that's respectful of member privacy, like this one is.
I understand the difficulty; some members (especially closeted CDs) want to remain under wraps while others, such as, say, Elizabeth, or even myself, are not so worried about being trans out in the open. But that's the whole point. If you want to remain under wraps, don't volunteer any personal info in the bio thread.
So, what say you, Sharon or SilverLady? Do we get this section rolling or no? Personally, with proper safeguards, I think it's a great idea.
Love,
CJ

Hi, CJ -
I've already informed Sharon of Absaroka's suggestion, and she agrees with my previously mentioned criteria for this proposed section. She's mulling it over, and we'll let everyone know as soon as possible!

I'm okay with the idea if someone else wants to post, but I personally don't think that I would post very much in such a section. I guess I'm always paranoid about sharing too much. Not that I have too much to hide, half the family (and probably more) has heard at least some about my CDing and I'm retired so I don't have about my job.
Hmmm...interesting....just why am I paranoid?
Maybe another thread could be: why are we paranoid" Or maybe "are we paranoid or do we just like privacy?"
