A Gathering of the Tribe

General talk about CD/TGing and gender topics that aren't necessarily fun things we do while en femme, or for gender-driven discussions.

A Gathering of the Tribe

Post by CJ »

Hi all,

Anita calls it "A Gathering of the Tribe." I like the idea. In the thread about the forum's 5th anniversary, Anita threw in the notion of a meeting of this forum's members. Is it feasible? Is it doable? What would be some of the requirements? Who'd organize it? And where? Would enough interest be generated for such an event?

Your thoughts please.

Love,
CJ

SL and I have been fortunate enough to have personally met several of the girls from this forum and they are as sweet in person as they are here!!

Uh, off the record, I vote for Auntie Jeannie's place - did you see the size of that hotel she calls home in the photo gallery. And she can cook!!!!

Well just my .02 worth, but it would be great to see if we could do this!

Wonder if it is difficult to get to Canada? :-k

Love,

Virginia

It just so happens that my 40th high school reunion is due to come up next year (yay, 69ers!), and I've been intending to contact some classmates about how we're going to set that up. My business partner says there are companies that will set up gatherings such as ours. I'll be doing research on that, and I'll see what they have to say.

But there's an obvious advantage with my high school class; my classmates and I know we're destined to head back to Wilmington, Ohio, and meet there. Whereas, the forum does not have a centrally located corporate headquarters as of yet. I guess we could all camp out in Shannon and Sharon's back yard--I'll bring the marshmallows.

Seriously, I'm not sure how you pick the location, and that's just one of the agendas. I'm up for it discussing it, though.

Hi all,

Anita,

I was just now perusing (I just love that word!) a map of the U.S., looking for a location that would be fairly central so that no one member would have to travel a million miles to get there. I was in the forum's Chat room earlier tonight and we--very briefly--discussed this GOTT (Gathering of the Tribe); Danette told me of an event called The Fall Harvest that takes place, yes, in the fall, in Kansas City, Missouri. I took a look at their web site and it seems to be a fairly reputable T-convention. Now, Kansas City strikes me as a pretty central location in the U.S., fairly accessible to people from Vancouver, British-Columbia, all the way to Miami, Florida. Jeannie also mentioned some event in Provincetown, Massachussetts (also in the fall) but I think that may be too far for you west coast gals. My only hesitation regarding this type of venue is this: I'm not sure if all members who'd like to attend our GOTT would feel comfortable doing so en femme. Not having much experience (actually, having absolutely zero experience) in this kind of thing, I'm thinking I might be one of those "uncomfortable feeling" members. So, aside from the location, we'd have to work out the issue of the nature of the event itself... a grand ball? or a more sedate, boy mode meeting? or something in between?

Regardless, I love the idea of meeting a whole bunch o'yaz in the same place. I hope it'll come to pass, eventually.

Love,
CJ

Don't worry about it Hon.

Hi CJ.
The idea of meeting all you girls is fabulous! If it's a Tgirl venue why worry? Be yourself and enjoy it. If people give you a hard time Virginia will take care of them. I can just hear it now" You have a problem with my friend Jeannie?" I pity the fool! Hugs all you wonderful ladies. Even you GGs!

Hi, all -

I love the idea of the GOTT, and having it at a fairly centralized location would be the best, IMHO.

As for the UOD (Uniform of the Day), I think it would be best for the members to dress as they feel most comfortable, call it a "no harm, no foul" situation. If you, CJ, would rather attend the GOTT in drag, and if Virginia or Anita would rather come in femme, then who cares? ***huh*** If anyone were to attend the Diva Las Vegas, the Be All, or even the SCC, you'll find a wide variety of attire, from femme to drag, and no one cares.

The whole point of the GOTT is for those who wish to attend to finally meet their fellow forum members in person, to socialize and have fun . . . as long as we're all wearing clothes, who cares? :sigh:

I like the idea. If travel is too far I will probably not be able to make it. How ever it does sound like it could be a fun thing to meet in person the people I have been talking to online for 5 years. I am somewhat amazed that it has been that long.

I often think about how cool it would be to meet as many of you as possible. The only things that would hold me back is distance and the time off from work.If you have a get together I will do my best to attend 8)

I would love a meeting, but so many variables with so many girls. Weather, distance, time etc. Dosn't mean we shouldn't try it!!!!!! Theres only 1000 of us, so maybe as a sub-group at one of the established conventions? Just a thought.

Great idea!

Id volunteer for everyone to meet here (central Illinois) out in the middle of nowhere but everyone would have to bring their own tent and bug spray:)

Let me know if I can be of assistance. I maybe go to Kansas City to check out that location in person and report back.. Unless someone else is closer or already knows about it

I'd be interested in a forum meeting if location schedule permits.

It would likely be my first time out as Jadeanne.

I would like to offer a solution to the how far to travel problem. What if there was 3 events, eastern, midwest and west .Not everyone would be able to meet each other but it might give more of us the chance to meet those in the same area.Pictures could then be posted giving glimpses of the other events. :-k

That is a really good idea. For the west meeting might I throw out the idea of the San Francisco Bay Area as there are three major airports and great public transit systems. Between BART, buses, and taxis there is now where you cannot get to with in a good amount of time. Just a suggestion. Then again it would be a great place to hold a complete forum meeting.

How do they deal with this at the "name" conventions, like Southern Comfort? Is it a given that you go dressed enfemme, or do people go dressed male? Whatever they do doesn't matter, though. This is our event, and we make the rules.

Thing is, CJ, if a person is going to attend this at all, they're almost going to have to pack "her" clothing. And that creates an expectation that they'll use that clothing. It's very hard to have the clothing around and not want to use it, especially in a new setting where you're away from the usual restrictions. You also paid that surcharge for the extra luggage, and you hauled it around with you and hired porters to carry it and tipped the taxi guy for slinging it in the back! All that trouble, and it never gets used?

And if you don't pack the clothing at all, then you're stuck--you can't dress, no matter how the weekend progresses.

So I'm playing devil's advocate here--how do you handle your comfort zone, without pressuring yourself? It seems to me that if you bring the clothing, you're bound to want to dress, and if you don't bring it, you'll likely be disappointed that you have no choice about the matter.

One thing I would like to see is a curtained area at the event where people could get dressed in the convention center itself, and not have to go to and fro if they didn't want to. That would help make things a little more comfortable.

Hi all,

Good points, Anita! And, of course, "CJ" would be around, were I to go! I guess I was playing a little bit of the Devil's Advocate, myself. I've often been out and about en femme amongst strangers; there would be no excuse for me not to do so amongst friends. Whatever jitters I have come only from the fact that I've never attended this kind of gathering before and have never participated in any kind of support group in RL, so this would be a first for me on more than one level.

Onward to the GOTT! ((G)) :dancing: ||oo|| =P~ !!OOO!! :coffee: @@9@@

Love,
CJ
