Dr. Phil - Fraud or Idiot?!?

General talk about CD/TGing and gender topics that aren't necessarily fun things we do while en femme, or for gender-driven discussions.

Dr. Phil - Fraud or Idiot?!?

Post by Virginia »

I have to start with excuses. Today, Monday, August 4, the Dr. Phil show came on here at 4:00pm and I was busy so I only caught part of the first half.

It seems that this person was in the process of transitioning at age 40 or so. He said he had "felt wrong" most of his life, but had fought it and did what some of us have done! Macho to the max. Football, military, policeman, sheriff, but alas "the gift" won out! He had been married, I think three times, maybe only two, but he had three daughters and one son ranging in age from, I think, 8 to 21. She came on the show as Melinda or Merissa or whatever, which was gutsy, to say the least. She had been taking hormones for several years, was evidently currently single and had had no contact with her children for at least two years. She would have passed, in my opinion.

Of course Phil the Idiot took every one's side but hers!!!! She was an unworthy, uncaring parent, all this interspersed with audience applause. Her daughters were crying and saying that they just wanted their daddy back and Phil the Idiot of course took their side completely. That after saying that "he did not want to appear bias and to be as fair as possible."

It was there that I just turned it off! I was/am biased - I know what we go through. I finally spoke to my daughter on the phone for the first time in two + years. I know that many of my sisters here have children and some hide this "stuff" from them for any number of reasons and that's fine. I would be the last to judge how you raise or participate in your family. For me, I am who I am, I accept it, I cherish it, I nurture it and when given the opportunity, I share the feminine qualities that most of us so admire, the gentleness, caring, listening, sharing, touching. It make me who I am, I am Virginia and Virginia is me!

How will I be around my daughter and my two grandsons? No, I won't "dress-up" out of respect for my daughter and her family, but I don't need to "dress-up." Clothes don't make the woman (where have I heard that before? ) My daughter has trouble accepting this - fine! I am not going to "throw it in her face." It is not necessary. I am still who I am and no one can/will change that. If "it" comes up in conversation, my response will initially be, "let's don't go there!" After that we will just see!

Keep the faith ladies! and p!$$ on dr. phil the idiot!

Love you all,

Virginia

IMHO. Dr. P appeals to those who need someone to tell them what to do. He is just a more civilized version of Jerry Springer. Wouldnt surprise me if it was all staged and choreographed. The network makes a lot of money off this guy.

While Im at it, I have tried to give this guy the benefit of the doubt, but just cant quite get there. People of this type like Rush L. and Sean Hannity etc have cretaed a logic sytem in their heads that makes perfect sense in their context. The problem is that they resist or refuse for some reason to accept that there are other contexts. They consequently cant respond to anyone outside their self created box. They just cant hear new information.

Thank you and Good Night

Hi all,

In the good doctor's own words: Dr. Phil's "Daddy Drama" vlog entry (August 4th 2008)

By the way, Philip McGraw has yet to meet the requirements the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists imposed on him following an investigation into alleged inappropriate conduct and violation of the Board's ethics code. He's not a licensed psychologist. Not in Texas. Not anywhere.

Gotta love a man who can spoof himself on The Simpsons and still offer advice on human relationships and behaviour.

Love,
CJ

Fraud ? Absolutely.
Idiot? That was pretty smart of him to fool the American public so well and make a pile of money in the process.

"No one in this world, so far as I know--and I have researched the records for years, and employed agents to help me--has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby."

^ I agree with the sentiment, but I don't want to insult the jacka$$es of the world because they have feelings and have earned that title.

Let's just say that Phil McGraw is on the same par as Jerry Springer . . . which is slimier than a slug. Both shows are contrived and well-choreographed for shock-and-awe, and you couldn't pay me enough to watch (or listen) to either one. [-( My mother hangs on Phil's every word (and Oprah's, too) . . . no wonder we don't get along!! #-o

Dr.. Phil is just one of the many "hosts and producers" who profit off of other people's misery. They use sensationalism to sell their product, or syndicate their show, making money off of others and offering little in return. I don't watch him and many of the others.

Post by Lynn Edwards »

the answer to your question is BOTH. i don't watch him and never have. my wife had it on in the other room and came in to see if i wanted to see it. No. when i came into the room later i heard the daughter crying about missing her dad and i asked my wife to turn it off.

i'd rather watch any one of the 'judge shows' then MR. phil.

I think it's staged, since shows like Maury, Wilkos and Dr.Phil actually get people to come to their show. I mean noone with a bit of common sense would refuse to go unless you're an ego-masochist. Also, those shows basically make their audience on being scandalous, people don't care about accuracy. And as an added plus: With the american tendency of taking legal action against EVERYTHING, all three of the hosts would already be bankrupt because of information diffamation (I think that's how its spelled) civil court charges.
Even if it is but smoke and mirrors, it's still a pain to see how they relentlessly hack away at our communitylike that.

Hopefully people will have enough wisdom not to take entertainment seriously.
(And on that clause, I think Philip shouldn't have the right to use Dr. in front of his name after so many complaints until the issue is resolved because it lends him credibility.)

Oh and one last thing: If his family didn't want him like he was on the inside, then they don't deserve him at all.

SL,

You used the word "slug", are you saying in a nice polite way that he is the same as that little slimy earth crawing thing I step on? =D>

As a retired zoologist I come to the defense of that poor snail (deprived of a shell), pejoratively called a "slug". Just because it is slimy and slow-moving, it is not to be crushed under a foot. As for "Dr." Phil - that is another matter - crush away, Carol.

Dr. Phil can be described as nothing but an entertainer who makes money and fame on other people's desires to get into people's lives.
My GF saw that same show and lambasted me about a TG friend of mine. She adheres to whatever Dr Phil says. How sad but true.
