movie review
The love of my life (SL) and I went to a movie last night. First movie we have been to in quite some time. The theater is one of those "artsy" type in a little neighborhood of small shops and quaint restaurants, actually pretty cool! The once large theater, has been sub-divided into several smaller theaters, and the one we ended up in sat, maybe thirty people and when we got there is was perhaps 1/3 full!
Oh, the movie was ABBA's "Momma Mia." Was not quite what we expected, but it was, for lack of a better term, "cute." Nothing deep and the various cast members sang ABBA songs at various situations in the movie. It would not measure up to "Oklahoma" "Cats" or "West side Story" but it was --- cute!
Would we recommend it - well if you are an ABBA fan (I am guilty!) and you long to see Meryl Streep show her versatility as an actress, it might be worth it to you!

The acting of Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan were okay, but "Momma Mia" is in the same category of 'musical' movies that are watched not for the acting, but for the music . . . to wit:
Neil Diamond, in "The Jazz Singer", and the
BeeGees, et.al., in "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".
We were just 2 girls going out to the movies, and we had a nice evening.
Have a wonderful day!!

I couldn't do it.
Hi Hon
I really like Meryl Streep but couldn't muster up the courage to sit through a two hour musical with ABBA music. I know they have sold millions of albums worldwide yet I never meet a person who would admit in public they actually bought one. They are the same people who deny they have a Barry Manilow album. Some things we do in life are better just left in the closet. Hugs.

Hi Girls
No.1 ABBA fans here I admit it openly and unashamedly. We saw the film last week and absolutely loved it. Must be a European thing
Got the Albums and are will be booking show tickets as soon as we can spare the £100plus for two tickets, worth every penny!

That took guts Hon!
Hi Kay
That makes one. Maybe I can flush out a few more ABBA fans but I must warn you. Your name will now go on the Music terrorist list and you'll never be able to enter the United States. Sorry.
The second most wanted person by the FBI behind Osama Bin Laden is Cher. I hope they get her before she comes out of retirement one more time. I don't think I could take it. Hugs.

PS. Come on Kay. You can tell me. Do you own a Bay City Rollers album?

I'm an ABBA fan, well, I always wanted to be like Agnetha, what girl wouldn't want to be like her. But my 70's crush goes to Donny Osmond, I was a similar age to Donny and I kinda thought he was cute. When on the streets I always dreamed that maybe Donny on his way somewhere would see me and take me home with him,, but no, never happened.

Jeannie, sorry you aren't too cool about Cher. Back a couple centuries ago, however, I would have killed to look like her when she and Sonny just started out.

Ahem . . . Virginia and I are ABBA fans, and have their albums/CD's, too.
Barry Manilow *and* Bay City Rollers . . . I admit that I used to have albums from both many years ago, along with Journey, Styx, CSNY and others from that time frame . . . and of course, Bob Seger (he attended the same high school as did I, albeit many years earlier and no, not in Ann Arbor).
Kay, don't worry . . . we'll get you into the US one way or another, we ABBA fans stick together!

Hi Kay
Don't worry Hon. I have a friend who owns a landscaping business and he has friends in the immigration office. It will just cost you $250 bucks and you're in. No problemo. Just one tip Hon. Wear a sombrero.
Amelie. The NSA will be knocking on your door soon. As for Donny,I'm more of a Rob Lowe type. He's so pretty he passes in a suit.
Sandi Anne. Cher could be a fabulous singer if she had voice. I must admit she was so cute back in the day and then she made friends with Joan Rivers and took some real bad advice. Hugs Girls.

Re: That took guts Hon!
I guess add me to the ABBA fans Music terrorist list. Have not see the movie yet. My wife and I were going to go to it last week. But we ended up at the lumber/hardware store looking at lights and other stuff for the house. I was in male mode this trip.

The gals on the UK forum, Roses, have made similar comments, Kay.Kay wrote:No.1 ABBA fans here I admit it openly and unashamedly. We saw the film last week and absolutely loved it. Must be a European thing![]()
I like ABBA as well. Saw the musical in Vegas, and it was great. My wife wasn't interested in seeing the movie though.
