Hey, Julie, the author didn't, by any chance, give any pointers on how this might be accomplished? Having men show their softer side may not appeal to all women, though.

Speaking of women's interest magazines, I worked in book and magazine stores long enough to notice that a defining feature of these periodicals is the fact that numbers are often splashed on the covers--much more so than on men's magazines. For example: 10 Tips To A Better Love Life; 30 Exciting Fall Looks; 450 Fashion-Packed Pages; 15 Steps To A Healthy Relationship; 20 Accessories You Cannot Do Without; 8 New diets; 22 Things He Won't Tell You But That You Need To Ask; etc., etc. Strange but true.

Myself, I'm partial to Chatelaine, W, Elle Quebec, Vogue's Fall blockbuster issue, and, when I have the necessary dinero, Italy's Collezioni. Of course, if Drew's featured in this month's Glamour, I'm definitely there (I used to dream about Ms. Barrymore--and not any kind of dreams you'd likely find in E.T.!!! ).

Love,
CJ

Hi Julie,

I like to read the women's mags also, though I haven't decided yet which I like best. It's just the great feeling of belonging I get that makes me like reading them.

Beauty: I've been thinking about subscribing to GIrl Talk but have been deterred by the price. Do you think it is worth it? Can you say anything more about it?

Love,

Laura, I think the price is worth it just to see what it is all about. Beauty "raved" about it last Fall (search "girl talk" in this forum to find that thread) and I ordered a copy and enjoyed it. For some girls it might be a God-send. As for me, I'm looking for something a little more political ( ) but I recommend everybody at least check it out . . . especially those of us that are not on the net -- to some, its a whole other world.

Julie, here's another way of looking at it . . . we have crossdressers at one end and post-op transsexuals at the other end and in between those two there are (supposedly) 27 other different classifications which are covered under the "transgendered" umbrella, so . . . if one isn't a CD or a post-op transsexual, then they're "transgendered".

(Of course there isn't a universal agreement about this either so I'm sure somebody will voice another opinion.)

I've seen both CDs and TGs refer to themselves as "t-girls." IMO I think its okay to use this term for both during casual conversations . . . no need to be technical all the time.

IMO, I'd say you're in a grey area -- mainly because you are asking if it is possible you might be transgendered. IMO a "pure" crossdresser would probably not be asking themselves that after a little education on the subject. In fact, some long-time CDers point out that they are "just crossdressers" after being introduced (in person or on the net).

On the other hand, for example in my case, its a state of mind. I'm a girl period. Its not something I can purge or put away until next weekend. Whereas many (most?) people here are primarily excited/turned on by female clothing and/or dressing up, for transgendered people, IMO its more than that. In fact, the female clothing thing is rather secondary to me. I hardly get excited as some people here about girls clothes, yet I've a closet full of female clothing, because, well, its what girls wear and I want to look nice.

I don't know if this is helpful but I suspect sooner or later it'll become clear to you as you travel on this exciting journey.

Hi Julie,

Don't worry. I think it'll make more sense when you read it. :) Transgendered is just a way of putting CD's through TS's together. It's kind of a unity thing vs. a label.

Good news about the prices for Girl Talk Magazine.

If you want a full year's subscription it's $30. :)

The downloadable version is $7 and the one they send in the mail is $10.

Hi Julie, Alexandra and all,

I am definitely transgendered. Like Alexandra its more mental with me than anything. I think I could go quite a while without crossdressing and still feel like a woman--at least a big part of me is. I'm very female identified inside.

But, I heard somewhere that transvestites were totally male identified with a fetishistic interest in women's clothes, while crossdressers combined an interest in women's clothes with a cross-gender identification. Transsexuals just want to go all the way.

By the way, I think I will try out Girl Talk! Thanks.

Love,

Julie, I'll see you at the other thread.

Laura, IMO the term "transvestite" isn't clearly defined. Some strictly crossdressers use it to define themselves (for example, Eddie Izzard). Maybe its a British thing?

OK I know this is an old post but I did something intersting today that relates to it directly. A new (reopening) of book, viedo, CD blah blah blah stored has there grand reoping today and I rented a couple of DVD's from them at $.99 cents. Not having any cash I did not want to put that little amount of CD so I went to the magazine section and begin looking. When I came across the lifestyle section I remember someone mentiong the Magazine Girl Talk and sure enough there it was. I did they old one two to see if any was around me who knew me and seeing that the close was clear I took the magazine (which just happens to be nearly in the back shelf of the magazines) and then began to flip threw it. I did not really read the magzine (it not a library) but I stoped every now and then and look at the people (as I like to call them) and noticed how nice they look. I almost decided to buy but could not bring my self to do that. Instead I bought a computer magazine. But the thing was I would have never thought of looking at such a publication if not for someone suggestion.

Thank You

Jessie
