"Give me bite of sugar before you go."
It comes from a conclusion that kisses from those you love and who love you are sweet, and sugar is sweet, ergo........ Could have been "give me a bite of molasses", I supposed, but that would have been sticky and perhaps a bit confusing!
A variation is "give me a bit of sugar", but the older folks still use bite.
My mother said this to me as I was leaving after a 3 hour visit at the nursing home last Sunday. She is blind, has a degree of dementia, can't hear well, and is incontinent, but she had a good day and enoyed the greek dinner I took her. She will be 88 tomorrow (Oct. 4). She asked for Chinese food for dinner tomorrow.
