TGEA Holiday Gala

Post by SharonRose »

Last evening my wife and I attended the TGEA Holiday Gala. Hosted by my support group, the Transgender Education Association of Greater Washington, D.C., this annual event features dinner, live entertainment, dancing, and of course, lots of photos. It is an opportunity to dress up real nice and get together with friends.

This year's event featured live music by the Satin Doll Trio, a D.C. based jazz group. There was also a DJ afterwards. Both were excellent. They decided not to hire an official photographer but instead provided a backdrop and lighting for "do it yourself photos".

Turnout was a bit lower than last year due to scheduling conflicts as well as snowy weather (some people were unable to make it into D.C. due to snow here and in PA).

Donna, SL and Virginia, we missed you. Forum member Kendra was there shaking her pom poms.

My wife and I enjoyed the company and the entertainment.

I wore a purple, Marilyn Monroe style halter dress.

I have posted two new photos in my photo gallery.

Love, Sharon

Sorry the weather reduced the number of attendies. It was slick in a number of places, even if it did look nice.

Your dress looked nice, especially with you dark wig.

Velvet?

Did you have the breakfast get together Sunday morning? I will never forget the one in Alexanderia and the gay couple next to our table and their little boy and what a loving couple they were and you could just tell they were great parents and the little kid was just so full of life and running around the restaurant just being a kid!!!!!

As to old adage goes, there is always next year!

Glad you had a good time! Bet that babies are growing like a weeds too!
With two mommies those kids can't lose!!!!! =D>

Virginia,

We did not have the breakfast this year.

Maybe next year.

Our kids are growing up fast. Our son is almost 3 years old, and our daughter is 10 months.

TGEA Holiday Gala

Post by Kendra Lynn »

Hello all: I did indeed enjoy shaking my pompoms to the dance/pop music spun by the hired dj at the TGEA Holiday Gala this year!
I came straight to the gala from a political event ("revival" by REV BILLY & THE STOP SHOPPING CHOIR at BUSBOYS & POETS in DC) and there was no time to change out of my cheerleader outfit-- so "hippie cheerleader" made "her" gala debut !
I guess "Hippie Cheerleader" (standard cheer outfit with a peace sign pendant or a cheer outfit with a peace sign in front or on the back or a cheer outfit accented by left, progressive, "green" buttons/badges) is my trademark. As much as I get a kick out of dressing generally (I now say, ""I like girls, but for some reason I also like to dress as one") the most fun I have when "dressed" is just going out as "hippie cheerleader" to appropriate (mostly non TG specific events) and interacting with the folks there. (I did that again Wednesday night-- there was a gathering to support locally owned business in downtown Silver Spring-- that's sort of a "green" idea, and I wore one of my finest cheer outfits. I knew at least some of the folks who would be there. I get a real kick out of discussing politics, music, etc etc when I'm in full cheer drag, maybe I'll succeed in making the image of cheerleaders more er... "intellectual" (among other things).

Could write more about that-- maybe there's a book in there somewhere!!
Anyhow, had a great time at the TGEA gala and it is very likely that HIPPIE CHEERLEADER will return next year!
And shaking pompoms is great exercise!
Best wishes to all for the holiday season and new year!!
Peace-- Kendra Lynn ("hippie cheerleader").
