Very sticky situation

The other night, while sleeping with my GF, I found myself ravishing her. I mean passionately kissing her neck, ears and in effort to find her mouth with mine. I was in a state of sleep and actually thought it was a dream; when actually it was reality. I was in a groggy state.
Thinking it was my TG friend Angie I was kissing, I kept mumbling Angie's name over and over as I was unknowingly kissing the GF. I had awakened her and myself in the process...realizing I had screwed up badly.
Awakening next morning, the GF mentioned that I had ravished her while asleep...she said she really couldn't remember details but I am sure she heard who's name I was mumbling. (and it wasn't hers).
Hopefully I patched things up by explaining that I had a dream in which I was being attacked by Angie Dickinson (Police Woman on TV).
Wow, was that ever a close one!
Has anyone ever had such a close shave???

Ms Joann,

No one can be held accountable for the content of their dreams. Since we have no control over it. There is this idea out there that all dreams are repressed desires and that simply is not the case. Dreams are not well understood, despite what TV, the movies and conventional wisdom would have you think.

Do you believe that people choose to have nightmares? Or dream about embarrassing things? I believe that dreams have no meaning. If they did, we would understand how to interpret them. Which we don't.

Perhaps she would prefer you were in bed with Angie and dreaming about her?

I too, have talked in my sleep, and from what my wife tells me, she's asked a few questions and gotten a few answers, about one in particular, pertaining to visiting a friend that happened to live above a strip club. He considered the whole place to be 'his', and one thing led to another, and soon enough, we were downstairs, drinking, reminiscing about old times.

I made the mistake of calling her, telling her I was gonna crash there at Dave's that night, she called right back, and got the "Thank you for calling 'Bottoms' Up'" response....

So she came over with her sister, took all the luggage out of the car, forgetting that mine were the only bags left in the car, and took off, leaving me standing there in the parking lot.

I suppose I told her what she wanted to hear, as she's still with me. That's the only thing she's admitted to quizzing me about, I suspect there's others, but she's gotta be keeping that on the 'down low'.

I'm 99% in agreeance with you Elizabeth

However I will reserve 1% or less for those dreams that defy all logic

eg: You dream that you witness a red car colliding with the power pole in front of your home , you recall your dream when you drive your car out of your driveway to go to work. when you're returning home you turn into a road nearby, you sight a power pole knocked over with a smashed up red car at the scene.
Not nessesarily in front of your home (as in the dream) , but never the less IT HAPPENED !

The only close shave I've had is when I've struck out at something in my dream. Luckily I only hit the head board.

Not arguing, just asking.

Freud's theory on dreams is just one theory and it was never supported in observation. It is just a guess. The truth is, no one knows. There are many competing theories.

It just goes to show how good our bodies are in that we dream several times every night and during the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) phase of sleep our bodies are locked down and unable to move. REM Sleep is very important, especially in children. Dreams can be vigourous even violent so I for one thank this mechanism that saves our sleeping partners from a drubbing.

I never said anything wrong in a dream but I did hit my wife once while sound asleep after seeing a scary movie. I also nearly hit my daughter once when she woke me out of nightmare. That was terribly upsetting. She was 3 at the time and after that when she came into our room at night she always went to my wifes side of the bed. Thank God that's it for the bad things I did while I was asleep.

My next door neighbor woke up one night to find her husband on top of her, strangling her, sound asleep. She kneed him between the legs as a last resort to wake him.

As for wrong names, I had a girlfriend once who I did not get along well with. I was always accidently calling her by someone elses name, although I was awake at the time. Something very Freudian was going on I am sure.

Hmm, I don't usually remember my dreams. Seconds after I awaken, they are lost to me.
I do remember an experience I had where (apparently) I rolled over in the middle of the night and grabbed my wife and said to her, "I love you, Sparky."
She told me this the next morning, asking who "Sparky" was. My God's honest answer was a flat "I dunno." and after mulling it over, the strange thing is the only time I've ever encountered the name "Sparky" was watching National Lampoon's Vacation. (Beverly D'Angelo uses the pet name "Sparky" for Chevy Chase.)

I agree with Elizabeth, we can't be held accountable for what our unconcious mind creates. It's hard enough to control what my concious mind deals with everyday.
