Need ideas for a costume party coming up in January.

General talk about CD/TGing and gender topics that aren't necessarily fun things we do while en femme, or for gender-driven discussions.

Need ideas for a costume party coming up in January.

Post by Michelle Miller »

My favorite sister in law has a costume birthday party thrown for her every year. There's been some good ones in the last few years, from 'Hee Haw' to 'Gods & Goddesses', where I showed up dressed as Phil Connors from 'Groundhog Day', in blue PJ's and whatnot, and had to end up explaining myself all night, to folks in togas and whatnot..."I'm A god, I'm not THE god"

This time around, the theme is 'Superheroes' and I'm at a loss. Being a huge nerd I admit, I was into comic books in my younger days, but I just can't think of any good ideas for a costume. I know what my SIL will be, she's nuts over Wonder Woman, but I'm drawing a blank here. I'd love to go en'femme, as I didn't last year...

So...any ideas?

There's a LOT of spandex in that list. *shudder*

I dunno if I could pull off the spandex thing. This is gonna be complicated.

OK, a small clarification..the wife told me the theme was 'superheroes'...not being as much of a comic nerd as I was earlier in life, she mistook 'heroes & villains' to be 'superheroes'...

Hmmm..maybe I can talk the wife into letting me paint her blue with waterbase paint, grab some yellow contacts and have her go as Mystique.

The wife's response to that was "aaaAAAWWWWHELLNO!"

Go as yourself and remember that you are a superheroine just like we all are.

I'm serious. A friend of mine once went to a party wearing a sign proclaiming herself normal. Everyone including her agreed it was a great disguise.

Better yet go disguised as your wife and give her props for being a superhero for putting up with you. Because every successful marriage has two superheros.

Well, partial good news. The wife may have found one...for herself, anyway, Janeane Garofalo's character from 'Mystery Men', 'The Bowler'.

I dunno how's she's gonna feel about carrying around a 12 lb. bowling ball all night though. She may have made a 'spur of the moment' decision here. lol

Superheroines

Hello: Good luck with the party-- curious to know what you wind up doing.
I have wanted to do "vintage" SUPERGIRL (late 1950s- mid 1960's)-- she looked sort of like a cheerleader from that period.
Well, the officially licensed SUPERGIRL outfits that are currently available look more like Helen slater's costume from the 1980's film. (and I did buy one of those-- but it is a bit er... sexier than I'd prefer... but it does fit.. don't know if I'll ever have the guts to wear it in public though...)
But then I realized I've got some royal blue cheerleader stuff that matches vintage Supergirl's royal blue. I found a fantastic red cape at a DC costume shop, and have a cute pair of red boots. Voila!! SUPER CHEERLEADER!! (wore that in the NYC Halloween parade).
Anyhow, all this is to say that you can even make up your own character!
Be sure to take plenty of photos!
Peace-- Kendra Lynn ("hippie cheerleader").

I'd seriously look into Sailor Uranus. I really found it an easy costume to wear even if you're not ''out'' as the character is somewhat too androgynous to matter. And I just used a white one-piece swimsuit as the base then sewed on the accesories and forms.

Easy, simple, nostalgic.

But, for the love of god, don't let the ''hairy legged sailor scout'' incident repeat itself. L've seen so many people goof up their costumes because they think having their legs shaved makes people think they're CDers. To play the part you gotta look the part. Doing anything else is what makes people think you've got ulterior motives.

How about Trinty from The Matrix-? She has a girly- guy thing going on. :)
Just starting to explore my feminine nature- am very shy meek and demure. Addicted to looking and acting ladylike. Still have so many questions about exactly who I am- have so many mixed emotions about my gender issues.

You could mimic your wife and be the cross-dressed version of Wonder Woman.

A real novel concept is to have her dress as Superman and you go as Wonder Woman. :)

Well, the wife's older brother is going as 'General Zod' and Wonder Woman's already spoken for, the sister-in-law will be doing the golden lasso thing.

I think I'm just gonna find me an earpiece and go as an Agent, from the Matrix movies.
