Polyester panties
Ok, this may sound stupid but I am wondering if any of you have heard this before. I read an article today that said wearing polyester panties could cause impotence in a man due to the static electricity they generate (the panties, not the man...lol). I am curious about this.
Most of my life is spent as "the manly man", and I enjoy that role. But on occasion I need to listen to another side of me.

You cant believe everything you hear
There is a common belief that if you contract "mumps" post pubity that you will become sterile and never produce children , I had the disease at 18 with one of my testicles swollen to the size of a large potato , the doctor said it was the worst he's ever seen.
Now I have 2 children , daughter who just turned 18 and a son age 15
People still tell the "mumps / sterile" story , I tell them to argue their case with my kids.

that's pretty interesting, did you read that on-line? i remember several years ago being on a road trip through New Mexico and Colorado and i saw this tabloid newspaper for sale and i really should have bought and framed it. the headline in huge bold typeface read: I WAS BIGFOOT'S LOVESLAVE!
anyway, i prefer cotton blends for panties anyway.
thanks for the interesting post!

I have a few pairs of polyester panties and at times they do build up quite a static charge. However I believe the cause of sterility in men wearing poly is not due to the static charge but to the fact that it holds the testes very close to the body.

As applied to men, while technically it may be possible to "kill" sperm with an electrical charge, men continually reproduce them.
A good case in point: My father-in-law was electrocuted when he was a young man (Obviously non-fatal) The doctors said he would bear no children. When his wife became pregnant, he thought she was having an affair! It took another test to prove he was not sterile and he was in fact, the father. He went on to have two more kids, my lovely wife being the second of three.
I found this on the web: http://www.newmalecontraception.org/heat.htm
So, as Merinda stated, I don't think there's anything to worry about.
In the case of women becoming sterile from static electricity, I have to plead ignorance. I did search Google and Snopes.com to see if there was anything on the subject. No luck there. I would imagine if it were a problem for women, there would be something out in print.
Regards,
Kyra

If polyester panties caused impotency, there would be a big gap in the demographics of the US. In the 60's polyester was the in thing for men's slacks, suits , shirts, underwear, etc as well as women's pants suits, slacks, etc. There was a short period where almost all clothing was polyester .
Just think , if this were true , there would not be anyone in the US in the
40+/- age bracket !!!!!
