On the news

Post by Virginia »

I think it was Fox News today, Wednesday, but I am not sure, I was somewhat distracted, but the blond anchorette had a blond Dr. on and the Dr. was criticizing the moisturizers that we use. She said, as most of us know, that the skin is the largest organ in the body and is the most obvious candidate for mistreatment and a lot of these lotions that we put on our skin to "moisturize" it can be dangerous up to the point of (based on some studies she referred to) can cause various cancers. THAT IS SCARY.

The anchorette could not contain herself in wanting to know the DR.'s secret as she was a real looker. First she said the first rule of thumb is if you won't or can't eat it don't put it on your skin.

She recommended two natural oils: Sunflower oil that you get in the grocery store and Olive Oil is also good. But she said any natural oil that can be used for cooking is good.

I have tried Olive oil and it does work, however after 3-4 days your body begins to generate an odor equivalent to ---- well to be politically correct --- olive oil!

I am going to try the sunflower oil and possibly coconut oil, safflower oil maybe even peanut oil - well, I don't want to smell like Jimmy Carter :P , however - sorry 'bout that, but I could not resist - How about Mr. Peanut? Motor oil even used (i.e., recycling) just because it comes out of the ground, I think I will pass on that one.

I will let you know how the others work.

Love,

Virginia

what an eye-opener, no wonder i don't have delightful skin - what with all the acetone and paints and goo and goop that i've messed with in home repairs and remodeling over the years!

i love essential oils like rose oil....not sure that i would eat a rose but i sure do love the idea of smelling like one.

i'll have to give this some thought, thanks!

Rose hips make a good tea and are edible as well.

A bit late with my scientific experiment, but, I was in "Wally World" (WalMart) a few weeks ago when I remembered this thread so I grabbed the first thing I came across. It was in the food aisle #-o It is called "ENOVA" and I don't remember what I paid but probably $2.99 or so. Anyway, I have been using it and it actually works - for me - I can tell a difference. Well, it works as well as any expensive lotions that I have tried, Aveeno, OLay, Vaseline, etc.

The label says it is Soy Bean and Canola Oil with Vit. A and C and is a product of ADM (Archer, Daniels, Midland) and comes out of Decatur, Ill.

I would have to say it works and there is no lingering odor like with pure olive oil, after a few days.

Hmmm..let's get some breading on Virginia, deep fry her @ 350 for a few minutes and serve with a side of veggies and bread. Sweet tea to drink, also.

I think I would pass on motor oil also. When in the crude oil form there are things in it that I would not want to put on my skin and leave there. Then it is refined and additives added to it to make it better for the engine, not my skin. Then in the engine it breaks down due to heat and contaminates.

But then again maybe my skin is so young looking because of the years in the oil field getting that crude oil on me then washing it off with diesel or gasoline.

Very interesting ladies, but I do believe I will stick with what has been on the shelf for years. If these products cause cancer I am sure the FDA would have said something by now, or then again maybe they are getting a kick back <-->
