Hair coloring

Ok, I have to ask all of you ladies. I just turned 40 last month, and the gray is getting worse! lol! Anyway, does anybody know what the best coloring kit is that I can get that will cover the gray, and won't dry my hair out. I'd go to the salon, but it costs too much for me. Thanks in advance for your input.

For me I use a wing to cover the gray. Does not dry on the hair.

I wish I could help you but I don't know the products available in the USA. As for myself, I am lucky as being a natural blonde (the same colour as my wig in my gallery), the grey just makes my hair look lighter. I am in my 50's now and probably still have a few years yet before I look totally grey. I leave it to my wife and daughter to color their hair.

I don't know from personal experience--but I have been cosidering going a little less grey myself -- and may do it in conjunction with getting my first fem hairstyle.

My suggestion is to go to something like "ask yahoo" and do a simple search on hair color gray. I have done that and there is a lot of good information like you are looking for there.

I started going gray at the age of 18.

I don't know from hair coloring. My wife has colored her hair, but prefers going to a salon if it weren't so expensive.

I imagine most of the hair coloring products currently in the market are acceptable and do a decent job.

I have been having my hair colored since I went full time. Improves my self image to look in the mirror and not see gray hair. I go to a beauty college where beauticians train, and get my hair colored at a discount (I have fine hair so they use a Clairol mixture), and my nails (acrylic) done as well. Other services include facials and pedicures, cuts, and brow and lip waxing, though the full body wax is not done there anymore. ( they got tired of the shrieks of agony, they say. LOL) Costs are substantially less Donna, and really they could care less about your social gender. With tip, the procedures are about the same cost as at a salon without the tip, but I like to give the students a bit extra since they are usually working poor jobs to put themselves through.

Several men go there to have "the works" (hair color and flattering cut, wax of brows to open up their eyes and make them neat, no more unibrow, and manicures and pedicures, and facials, to clean up well before giving a presentation for work. I find it a really fun experience to be pampered like that.

Hi, Sami -

I've been using the L'Oreal products for a few years now, and have had no problems with them drying out my hair or not covering 'all the gray'.

The cost is about $10 on average and 45 minutes of my time, and I have noticed that the color lasts for months; the only way someone knows I've been coloring my hair is with the new hair growth. I usually dye my hair every 2-3 months, but just to cover the roots.

A visit to the local WalMart, KMart, CVS, Walgreens, and the like, will provide you with an entire aisle of hair coloring products and a wonderful selection of color choices.

I also use L'Oreal and find it works very well, leaving your hair shiny.

When the roots come through, I just re-do them, I don't keep re-applying the colour all over, as this can lead to a build up of colour that goes too dark and permanent.

On the L'Oreal site, there is a link....Find My Shade....color with confidence with Christophe Robin.....sorry I couldn't get the link to work on here, but it is very helpful!

I started coloring my hair a few years ago because my natural hair was turning silver. I had dyed it a couple times since then and as the dye wore off, my hair was becoming blonde.
I recently re-dyed it using Revlon. I love it! It covered everything nicely. You have to make sure that your conditioner is formulated for "colored" hair.

I use Grecian formula gray. The gray looks gorgeous and it's so gradual no one will notice. You're right about gray hair Carol Ann. I knew this 85 year old rich Irishman who had gray hair and a gorgeous young wife. He went with his wife to the hospital to have their first baby and the nurse said" Is this your daughter?" He replied" No. It's my wife.There might be be snow on the roof but theres still fire in the furnace."
The nurse said" You better put in a new filter because your baby is black." Hugs ladies.

L'Oreal seems to work the best for me. It covers the gray and leaves my hair really soft...

I dunno, I know plenty of folks growing the silver, and the soil under those forests are as polluted as Chernobyl Heights.

As someone who has worn every hair color but black and probably used every OTC product out there - hands down it's L'Oreal. Best coverage, best hair feel and longest lasting. Enjoy!!
