Bra buying

Post by Erica S »

I want to go and get my first own bra, since I can only dress in drab at this time how do I go about it? Do I just ask to be fitted and since I do not have my breast forms yet does it mattter what size my bra will be? I guess when I start getting blouses or dresses the tops will have enough room for my eventural size of a B-cup. Any suggestions would be nice.

Getting fitted is the best way, or at least measured to get a band size.

I would just walk into a full service lingerie store or department and ask to be fit for a bra. It would be good to have an idea of what size forms you want and actually useful to have them along but not needed. For your comfort and those of the other customers you may want to go in when it is a slower time for the store. About an hour after opening on a week day is a good time and also that is when many of the managers are in the store. Some stores do not always have a trained bra fitter available and you may be asked to come back when they are there. Just set up an appointment if you can. If you are plus sized Lane Bryant has been good to me. Victoria Secret has also been god to me. Among other stores.

My experience has been be a serious shopper and be treated like one.

Enjoy.

I had good results with Bare Neccesities and Lane Bryant. One thing you can do is call first and ask about this. If they are encouraging then you can walk into the store knowing that they have already said that they are okay with this.

Personally I would stay away from Victoria's Secret as my impression is that they get a bit tired of us there plus their clothing tends to be small for men.

Another option is to go to Walmart and just take a bra into the the mens changing room. Scope it out first to see if the changing rooms are unattended.

Most websites have a section on measuring yourself, although I found that what fit well did not conform to what the measurements said. I think men and women have differences in physique that account for this.

Lane Bryant has always been friendly to me as far as trying anything on, including bras. Also had good luck with the L'eggs,Hanes,Bali,Playtex outlets. And finally, Kohl's has unattended fitting rooms and i have tried on many things including bras in the men's fitting room.

go for it.

What helped me is to just walk into a store and walk up to the first SA you see and ask for help. No delays walking around the store getting nervous and leaving. Like you said "just need to go and do it!!".

A piece of experience advice if you want it. I wasted a lot of money buying clothes and undergarments without know my size and just guessing. Lots of disappointed times trying things on at home and they did not fit. Now when I am in the fitting room trying something on or some SA is helping me I often think to myself, so why did it take me so long to do this. It really is not a big deal.
