Hello ladies,
There are many posts about getting the courage to shop for women's clothes etc., and many great words of encouragement... which is awesome!
For some reason when I am shopping for something femme for myself, I feel as if everyone knows what I am doing, and what I am. However, if I am shopping for something femme for my wife for a present or whatever, I don't feel self-conscious and I could care less what anyone might think.
It is truly a strange mental response, as I know 99% of the people probably could not care less about anything but their own shopping situation. Still, knowing how illogical this response is, I still can't get beyond it.
Here's another thing... even if I am with my wife and she is looking at women's clothes for me, I still feel like everyone knows she is looking for things for me vs. herself.
I don't know why I can't get beyond this mental hang up, but it happens all the time. Thus catalog/internet/ebay has become a common shopping crutch for me.

Hey Jessica, I feel the same way, but have gotten better. I usually shop JC Penneys' on the net but go to the store to pick up my purchases. At first it was very nerve racking but it has gotten better. I always thought the same that everyone knew and was watching me, but I don't think that way much anymore. A little nervous ( not as bad as the past ) but happy when I have my packages and walking to the car. I shop for shoes at Payless ( online also, store pickup ) and still have that nervous feeling though I have not ordered as much as my clothes. Seems like I have gotten more at ease at Penneys',
. Love that store. So as they say, it gets easier over time.

I do have some sympathy for you girls who have some concerns about shopping, but it has been my philosophy that, just look at who signed your paycheck - that is the only person that you have to impress. If that person is not selling you shoes or dresses or unmentionables, well as Shoeless Joe Jackson said in the movie "Field of Dreams" to paraphrase, "tell them to stick it!"
None of the store personnel is going to say anything to you as your money is as green as anyone else's or you plastic is made of plastic. Why should you care what other's think and as was said above they are usually so involved in their own little world it is a bit egotistically to think that anyone would care what you are shopping for. Have you ever walked up to someone in a store and questioned their purchases or shopping habits?
Not lecturing, just remember our slogan, "When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping!" so shop on ladies!

I agree, and no problem getting me to shop over and over!Bernice wrote:I also used to feel that way, and still do sometimes. I think you get over it the same you get over any fear. Do it over and over.
I love Penney's also, they seem to have the styles I prefer. Maybe it's just an Ohio thing.Valerie wrote:Seems like I have gotten more at ease at Penneys'. Love that store.
Nope, seems like a nutty idea when I think about it. It is truly an illogical "fear".Virginia wrote:Have you ever walked up to someone in a store and questioned their purchases or shopping habits?

Jessica I know what you mean. I've bought plenty of things for my wife and daughters and it was fine. Most of the time I am fine shopping for my ownself now also but it took quite a while. I found one thing that was helpful was Christmas shopping- buying stuff for my family and myself at the same time.
