I can understand your feelings about one leg shaved from the knee down and the other one knee up.
A few years ago I was going into the hospital for a procedure and i knew that they would need to shave me all the way down.
The day before i went into the hospital i shaved totally. When the nurse came over to shave me, her comment was, Oh, already shaved Good, I will not have to do it, and little did she know why i was shaved

hospital operation
The number of times that I have been in hospital over the pass few years, I make it a habit of removing any hair from body, (neck to toes).
I have found that it to be just that much comfortable and convenient to be hair free.
Mind you that my body is kept virtually hair free most of the time, as I loath body hair

thanks donna . lucky one !!! may be later on as just now i have one knee bandaged up and one foot full of stiches and badaged up . so it will be a long time before my trusted heels and nylons come out again .
i had to have a cyste removed from my ankle bone ,and the dr said it could have been cased by overloading ,i could not say to the dr with my SO sitting beside me "could it be because i wear heels" .

Overloading?
I've a cyst, probably a ganglion cyst (not had a diagnosis yet), on the knuckle of my right index finger. Ganglion cysts are also found in the wrist and ankle, although there are a number of various types of cysts.
Anyway, I know I had no injury to the knuckle, and definitely no overloading.
The cause of most cysts is unknown, especially if there has been no preceding injury. So the "could" theory by your doctor is likely only a theory.

.
I've had a number of Ganglions in my left wrist over the years , the first time I went to the doctor and he applied pressure and burst it internally , he explained that my job (requiring heavy lifting) was the probable cause and that it would most likely come back.
I've had about 4-5 in the last 20 years and my current one has shrunk to being almost un-noticable , I've learned to live with them.
Pernille ,
I had a folicular cyst removed from my leg some years ago , it was caused by an ingrowing hair , I had the back of my leg shaved and my GP removed it under local anasthetic.
Perhaps you could tell your partner that the doctor has advised you to keep your legs shaved to reduce the chances of a repeat . (just a li'l white lie)
