i am all mixed up on foundation. which i think is the bedrock of a passing face. i am currently using loreal tru match and i like that it doesn't make me look like i'm in a casket. there is, however, an amazingly passable pretender on youtube who swears by dermablend. dchaisse... anyway, when i lived in chicago i got this stuff at transformations that is a whipped souffle and is really good but i am looking for something similar.
whipped seems to be a key word, and i recently read about cover girl tru blend whipped. i also read stuff that put down the dermablend as too oily and fakey. i know that mac has this big rep among drag queens but i do not really want a drag queen look. (and i mean no bad if you are a drag queen.) i think i understand the allure, but i am not trying to be attractive to a man. i am looking for a decent foundation that doesn't cost the old arm and leg bit. i have been here for a while and i know that there are some great gals out there, so i await your answers. --cassidy jaye

Hi Cassidy
Like you I was full of doubt but I got told of a solution by a friend.
For me, I tried the foundation my daughter uses, she is the same colouring as I am and she looks good so I went out and bought the same brand/colour and hey presto! It worked!
Secondly, try any foundation on the back of your hand, its a reasonable simulacrum of your face and you can see if the colour suits you. I use powder foundation, I tried the liquid stuff but all that created was a mess as it didn't stay on my skin. I should have guessed as none of the GGs in this house use it.
There is no point me telling you what brand I use, its a very individual thing and what works for me will probably not work for you.

I use Dermablend myself, and I haven't had an issue with it being flaky or oily at all. The trick is, to use only as much as necessary and doing the setting powder correctly, I like using baby powder myself, as DB's setting powder is basically the same thing(and a LOT more expensive) Then I'll use a bronzing/finishing powder over that, after I put on my eyes & blush.
The setting powder is easy though, take a medium sized brush, dust some into your hand, tap the brush into it, and then tap it into your foundation at a 90- deg. angle.

Being a natural blonde I don't need demablend or beard cover. See my post elsewhere on shaving. I have never had a heavy beard and frequently skip a day if I am having an extended drab period, no one ever notices any shadow when I do that - even my wife.
Its because of this I can just use standard cosmetics with which application I am improving steadily.
I have a pdf document on make up techniques if anyone wants it, just let me know and I will email it.
A suggestion to the site administrators, would it be possible to create a FAQ section where we could deposit such things so everyone has access?
