Welcome to the country and my way of life. I fully understand everything you were talking about as I have the same thing. Now all I need is deer #3.
Some thoughts from the mountain

When I was a kid we had lots of truckloads of various things, dirt, sand, stone, delivered to our house for my dad's landscape projects. The truckdriver delivers. The children spread. It's the natural order of things. Glad you got to access your inner child for a minute.

This evening SL and I were returning from a sports competiton and started up "our mountain." I don't know at what exact altitude we were or are, but the higher we got the more snow we encountered. Oh, it has stopped snowing and the temperature was down to 29, and being that cold it had not melted and no wind. It was dark and with the headlights on the tree branches bent down with the heavy white stuff made sort of an almost, creapy, yet beautiful tunnel to drive through around the various curves. I guess one way to describe it would be a Currier and Ives Christmas scene, you know with the horse and sleigh and snow only this time, Rod Serling (Twilight Zone) was driving the sled. All I can say is this mountain is offering up some of the most delightful, intriquing and wonderful sights I have ever seen.

Oh, I meant to tell about our deer too. The other night, as some of us have a yearning to do, I awoke (in the middle of the night) to, well, visit the powder room. As I walked past the large picture window in our bedroom, I see one of the yearlings leap out of our flower bed, take a couple of steps and just flop down right outside our window. Somewhat in awe I watch for what must have been ten minutes as the little deer evidently nodded off. She put her head down on the grass and just took a nap. (It was a full moon and almost like daylight outside) In the bathroom I looked out to the side yard and there were (as best we have been able to discern) her mother and sister just munching away at whatever had evidently had fallen from the bird feeder above their heads.
I woke SL up and we just watched the sleeping little deer no more than 6 - 8 feet from our window, then her mother and sister as they dined on whatever they were enjoying in our yard. After 20 minutes or so we went back to bed and in the morning they had gone back to their home, I would assume. Will be interesting to see if we have any hoof marks on the lawn tomorrow morning after this snow. We got almost 4" up here but in the lower areas most of it had melted.

The TGEA Hiliday Gala was this Saturday, and my woodturning club also had their holiday party scheduled for Saturday. So, being the good husband, I chose to go to the woodturner's party with my wife.
It got canceled

its snowing in the mountains
It has been snowing here for, let's see, about an hour and a half and we have nearly 2". They are calling for 12" - 18" and at this rate it may well make it! It is just absolutely beautiful! It has obscured my view of my neighbor's place and his yellow school bus storage shed. I spread some bird seed out all over our covered porch and the birds seem to really enjoy it!
Well, if we don't lose power and the snow does not shut down my satelite uplink it will be fun to be snowed in up here.
You girls take care and I have it on good authority that Santa thinks we have all been good girls!!!
Love ya,

Well, it snowed all night and its still coming down. Have not been outside other than to scatter some bird seed on the porch, but at 6:30a the temp was 15 and it is still beautiful. I would have to estimate 16" - 18" right now. I would say that that is a bit beyond the limit of my Ford Expedition so I can find plenty to do inside.
This is one of the best ways to "test" you relationship with your SO. Not so much trapped but we are here together and well, there ain't no place to run for either of us and I would guesstamate it could be Monday or Tuesday before the "global warming" changes enough for us to even make an attempt to leave. Nice thing so far we have not lost power and as you can see out uplink is still up linked!!!!

Some pics from this morning, with 12 inches on the ground and more on the way. Supposedly there is a blizzard coming.

Well Donna, those pictures look like ours as well. This afternoon there were 15 dove sitting in trees around one of the feeders that they frequent. On the feeder itself was a squirrel, How those little tree rats can climb a skinny metal pole is amazing. Anyway he broke up the frozen seed for the birds and when he finally left the dove seemed happy to get something to eat!
Tomorrow, Sunday, they are calling for sun with a high in the low 30's then a wind of 30 - 35 mph dropping the temp to 8 - 9 degrees in the afternoon. That should thoroughly freeze the 20 or so inches of snow and could possibly turn it into our very own glacier!!! That would be so cool! We may never get off this mountain or we could end up at the bottom of the hill sitting atop this potential glacier. Are we having fun yet??

Thanks for the offer, Rikki, but a snow plow and ice scraper will be appreciated even more!
Good thing I did some major grocery shopping in preparation for our TriEss dinner party that was supposed to take place at our house tonight. Lots of food and beverages, even food for our feathered friends, and we still have electricity, water, and satellite uplinks.
Don't mind the snow days with my honey, either . . . time to get comfy-cozy on the sofa and, well, that's all you need to know!!
((Hugs))
