My band--the Web--live

Post by Anita »

Hi All—
My band will be doing another webcast—it’s been two years since the last one. For those who don’t know, we feature an Ethel Merman impersonator singing classic hard rock. I’m the “girl” guitarist, and we have regular guys on bass and drums.

I will have to put the web address in a later post on this thread. They haven't sent it yet, and I'd like to get this news out there.

If you like any of these songs at all, I think you’ll like how we do them. Mark does his act as Ethel, and hams it up a bit, but he also knows how to sing straight-ahead rock.

It’s a terrible start time—11:30 pm, Pacific zone. That basically means nowhere in the U.S. will anyone be watching this. The rest of you out there on the globe might be able to actually see this. If not, there will be selected songs put on Youtube afterward.

The songs we’ll probably do:

Gimme Some Lovin’/My Sharona (medley) ( Spencer Davis Group, the Knack)
Sweet Emotion (Aerosmith)
Get on Your Boots (new U2)
California Man (Cheap Trick)
Fire (Hendrix)

What is and What Should Never be
Good times, Bad times (both Led Zeppelin)

Rock n’ Roll Hootchie Coo (Rick Derringer)

Mississippi Queen (Mountain)
Rock the Nation (Montrose)

Bang a Gong (T-Rex)
Take me to the River (Talking Heads)
Very fine arrangement of this song!

What I Like About you (New Romantics)
Little Latin Lupi Lu (Righteous Brothers)

Communication Breakdown (Led Zep)

Hi all,

That's awesome news, Anita! Getting your boo back in the limelight might do you a world of good. Sheesh! with my insomnia these days chances are I'll be catching the show. That's a mighty fine repertoire you've got there. Can't wait.

Love,
CJ

Hey Girlfriend!

Hope I get to see this one!

One suggestion, you guys should come up with a version of that recent classic, "Pants on the Floor!" and keep it pants, I don't know that much about music, but I know "panties" just don't have the same ring to it [-X

Love ya,

Gracious, Carol Ann, I didn't even write down the date! No, it's Wednesday, March 3rd, and the time has been put way earlier. Still a scramble for East Coast folks, but it's now 9:30pm Pacific time.

Here is the link to the webcast: http://mediasource.expression.edu/liveCast.htm

You might want to try the link--my computer says I need Java, and Windows media player doesn't play the live cam, either. (I tried the link while a show was actually in progress.)

We usually have a great time doing these shows. We'll be going out on a limb on several of these songs, either because they're new, or because we don't play them that often. It's all in fun--if a train wreck occurs, we'll climb out of the wreckage and keep playing.

More time change!

Hold the presses, everyone!

The second email I got was an error, and it is indeed the later starting time. So this means 11:30 pm Pacific time is when we go onstage.

Sorry for all this confusion. The band has been up in the air with this, too.

Zari, we did Bombjam on one of the earlier shows, so it didn't make the cut this time. There is an original called "Car Sex" on the bill, and Mark wrote that one. I didn't put it on, because no one would recognize it. It's about being at the drive-in, so it's getting dated. There are no drive-ins anymore.

Gee, CJ, I thought drive-ins were as a American as apple pie and baseball, and now you're telling me that they exist in your neck of the woods, too. Of course, I'm saying they're like Bigfoot--rumored to be around, but I haven't seen one for a long time. I can think of three locations around here, and two of them are now permanent flea markets; big parking areas where sales go on. The other one is just a grassy tree-lined meadow; you can't tell that anything was ever there before the cud-chewing dairy cows that hang out there now.

The show went on as scheduled. I had fun, but also ran into limitations that bother me. I still haven't fully recovered from a hand injury in August, and it really showed up last night. I have always been able to quickly correct mistakes in playing the minute they happen; now I can't do that as easily.

It was also strange playing to a silent crew. This is a recording school, and the crew are all students. In the past, they've usually clapped or cheered after some of the songs. Last night we didn't hear anything at
all. Our two friends in the audience decided that silence sounded better than just four hands clapping, and I agreed with that.

I'll let you know where to go on Youtube when we get some new songs on there.
