What do you call them?

General talk about CD/TGing and gender topics that aren't necessarily fun things we do while en femme, or for gender-driven discussions.

What do you call them?

Post by Nancy »

Hello ladies,

It's been forever and a day since I have been able to get back to this forum. I have missed it and it is nice to get back when I can.

My question comes about from something I saw on the local morning news last week. Somehow a news story came up about women's panties. After the report aired the female anchor went on about how disgusting it was women's underwear is referred to as panties. She was quite adamant about how she was totally turned off by the use of the word panties.

Since then I have been asking some of my female friends what they call this specific undergarment. To my surprise not one of them calls them panties. Every one of the women I asked calls them underwear or underpants and all of them strongly dislike the use of the word panties.

So my question to you ladies is, what do you call them; your panties, underwear, under panties, drawers or whatever else?

Panties, undies, underwear or drawers. But most of the time, panties.

I never thought about this, but I think the female members of my family mostly call them underwear.

However I've never heard anyone refer to the word panties as a disgusting term. Maybe that's a personal idiosyncrasy of the anchor.

Hi all,

Well, I've always called them panties but Roxanne, my SO, swears that she knows of not a single woman in her entourage or circle of friends that refers to that garment by that name. They all call panties either "underpants" or, simply, "underwear."

Then again, they all call pantyhose "nylons" (an obvious misnomer, as far as I'm concerned) so I'm not sure how seriously I'm prepared to take their unwillingness to call a panty a panty. I mean, think about it; a panty is just that, a little pant.

I point out to Roxanne that La Senza or Victoria's Secret never hold sales on bra and underwear sets; it's always bra and panty sets. So there.

Panties. That's the sexiest, to me.

Maybe that's why GGs don't care for the term? Because it's been sexualized?

Hi All
Well, if the discussion is about the panties I wear, my SO says your underwear, if on the other hand we happen to be talking about her underwear, there panties.
Go figure.

Panties, Panties, Panties. Yes ma'am, they are called panties around this house, in fact when we first introduced our daughter to Kandis, she asked "When can I buy HER a bra and PANTIES". So ever the kids call them panties. Even in my tag line they are called PANTIES. LOL

I wear the bras and panties so she doesn't have to.

The bottom line is that if you call them and they come over, then they need to be washed. *giggle*

What we call our panties is relative to our age and locale. Fortunately, if you call them a few things, everyone will know what your talking about. Now if you're wanting a particular type of panty (or pantie), that's when the fun begins. So me being a full cut girl, I'm wearing "granny pants" and yeah I'm proud of it!

I don't know why anybody could say that the word panties is disgusting. It just means little pants. I admit that it does conjure up images of pretty little colourfull lace trimmed pants for beautiful bottoms. But what is disgusting about that. I always tought that it was an American word because we used the word knickers. When I was growing up both womens and boys underware were called knickers and it was often used as a joke or as a swear word. If somebody stubbed their toe they might say "knickers" instead of cursing. I noticed if underware came up in conversation with women or girls they would use the word "panties" if they wanted to be polite and they would say knickers if they wanted to be coarse. In most of the womens clothing stores where I like to shop womens underware is clearly marked "Panties". I do think that there should be a cutoff point regarding the size of panties. I think any underware larger than a U.S. size 6 or U.K. size 12 is too big to be called panties. Anything bigger should be called bloomers!

I say 'underwear'. To me, panties sounds like something a little girl would say. I dunno... mebe I'm just weird.

panties

For what it's worth, I was shopping the other day at Lane Bryant and the SA offered me all kinds of promotions and discounts, including a sale on "panties." And I noticed that Victoria's Secret seems to have no trouble calling them "panties."
