yet another bra fitting thread
I've done this several times now and always get the same result. I go to a store and tell the sales lady I need a bra and need to be measured. They get out a tape measure and tell me that I am a band size of 40 and that for obvious reasons they can't tell me my cup size. However this time I actually tried on the bra. (Lane Bryant by the way) As I already knew a 40 band size was just way too small and we tried a 42 and then settled on a 44. I would imagine that this has to do with mens torsos just being different from womens and that when you measure for the band size just under the breast that this doesn't take into account the fact that the musculature of the pecs doesn't really fit into a cup the way a breast does and thus needs to have a bigger band size. Is this what seems to happen with other folks here? VIrginia I would imagine this would be important to your selections in particular.
The sales lady was very nice and pleasant. About half way through however another customer came in and she had me work with the other SA who was a guy. A very typical male as well that some here might even call slovenly. He was also very pleasant and had a couple of different thoughts that the saleslady did not have about selection. No idea if he is one of us or just a good SA. It was definitely and odd feeling having a male SA for this and that is another thing I wonder if others here have thoughts on.
I like the bra I settled on although if I had not put the SA's through the trouble of me trying several of them on I probably wouldn't have bought it as I like some of my others more. But I don't feel right about going into a women's clothing store and trying a bunch of things on and then buying nothing unless there is nothing that works at all-trying to be a good ambassador for us I guess.

I remember the first time I bought panties at Lane Bryant, when I went to pay it was a male SA at the register. I would have preferred one of the ladies back then, but he was straight forward with the sale just as I imagine the ladies would have been. So now, It doesn't matter if the SA is male or female, only that they are professional.

Rather than starting another bra fitting thread, I'll add to this.
I have wanted a fitting for a long time. I even went so far as to take my forms with me to the outlet mall 4 years ago to get a Hanes/Bali fit but they were too busy & understaffed to ask.
I was out the other day and traffic was a mess so I decided to go to a mall near an appointment. I walk around and there is a large Victoria's Secret store. I walk around more trying to get courage (heart racing, in drab, do I really want to do it?).
I went in and asked about finding a t-shirt bra. The initial gal tried to find another bra associate but ended up pointing in the general direction. I wandered a bit then another associate in bras asked if I needed help. I asked about the t-shirt bras and she showed me the selection. She asked about size and I waffled saying I didn't know then stammering it was for me and can I be measured. Thump thump. She said could she measure right there and I said fine as there were few people. 39 in middle, less on top (forget the number) she says 38B which is about right. We talked size a bit and the fact I didn't have any forms with me. No problem, she leads me to the padded ones (Miraculous, #5 maximum swell, adds 2 cup sizes). She says this works well and showed me the 38Cs. Nice colors. I select a cobalt blue after she encouraged me it was better than navy and color is good unless you're wearing white whereas a neutral is better.
Then I get my courage up and ask if I can try it on. She says sure! She leads me to a dressing room and I try it on, adjusting a bit. I poke my head out and ask for help. She came in and says it looks pretty and we discuss the fit. It does look natural without forms. She says to try my shirt on to see how it looks and I did. Then I shooed her out to change back.
I came out and said I'd take it. Walking, I stammered about some coordinating panties and she said of course and showed me the matching lace (naw) then cotton (cute...) but then I decided to just get the bra. She made me feel comfortable about it all. She rang me up personally and told me her name and to ask for her when I come back. I walk out with my pink-stripe bag and scurry to the car to join traffic, my head swimming that I actually did it after all these years.
Now to try the bra - it appears to be fun to have something that just is wearable without pulling out the silicone.
Baby step. Anne

The bra is so good, I have to share. Like GGs, we all have our opinion on bra fit, types, colors, styles. I won't try to win you over but review one that may interest others.
The VS Miraculous Bra.
Features: Padded to add 2 cup sizes to most GGs. Lots of colors, straps can adjust to racerback or halter, lace version also available for a bit more. Padding sewn in, 2 bumps in cup (will not float around), maybe "memory foam" but you cannot see it as the inside is lined in the same fabric. Link: http://www2.victoriassecret.com/commerc ... rfnbr=5708
Review: Lots of colors and versitile. For AAA me, it gives me at least a B cup without forms. Stylish. As summer is coming, this type of bra looks like it can be worn without sweating as much as when forms are used. shirtless there is a bit of chest gap on the V part as the padding is positioned for GG pushup but with a blouse/shirt, it looks very natural and full. Not a stealth bra. Easier to put on and take off without the silicone girls to insert. A flat-chested 38/39 goes to a B/B+ cup in seconds. Has good stretch for fit.
Disadvantages: pricey (store was $49.50, similar online), only goes up to size 38, if you are naturally busty, this may be too much although sizes go to DD. You may want to get a fitting to get the size right or you could do the buy/exchange routine.
Verdict: Definitely near the top of the list. It will stay in the drawer for days forms would be better as I don't think (and have not tried) forms - they wouldn't contort like real breasts to give a bigger cup unless they were small A or so.

Anne, glad it went well for you. I have had great luck at VS also. Yea I was a bit freaked out the first time trying on a bra there in male mode even if it was the SA that asked me to try it on. I was hesitant about the size and fit, and the SA asked if I wanted to try it on but did not wait for an answer as she said follow her as she headed for the fitting room. I think the thing that freaked me out the most was her walking me into a busy fitting room area.
I gotta try that bra out next time I am out shopping. And I was just out shopping today and did not even stop into VS. Only so much time and so many stores to go to.

Way to go girls!
Posts like this help get us out and about and we learn that the world does not end if we just be ourselves. Our money is as green as anyone else's so SHOP ON LADIES!
On another place, BlueFly advertises bras for up to $200.00 + discounted from $300 - $400. Unfortunately the largest sizes are in the 36 C to 38 C.
and remember, "when the going gets tough, the tough go shopping!"

Way to go Anne! It's great that you gathered enough courage to talk to the sales associate in the store. I can honestly say, that I've never done that in "male mode". Oh sure, I've tried on women's clothing in stores as a guy, but never asked for assistance.
While shopping en-femme, I don't hesitate if the need arises. One of my weird hang-ups, I guess...
Thanks for sharing with us.
Hugs,
Kyra

I, like Anne, went to Victoria's Secret, looking to see what size A cup bra's they had. I asked a sales associate in her 40's I believe, if they had any 38A bra's. She said that they didn't but suggested the sister size of 36B. She showed me to the bra's and I chose one and asked her if I would be able to try it on. She lead me to the dressing rooms, I tried it on and it fit pretty well. Unfortunatly I wasn't looking at buying a bra that day.
A week or so later I went back only to be helped by another associate. I told her that I tried on a 36B and wanted to try on a 36A, to see if it would fit. She gladly took me to a fitting room, and helped me. After trying on several bra's she did a fitting, and sure enough I would be a 38A, but again not carrying that size, I went with the 36B. During that trip the associate was going through the drawers looking at size and just blurted out "That one wouldn't fit you, that's my size" as if I were one of the girls.
Last week I went looking for anther bra, and went and met up with my 1st sales associate, she gladly helped out, asking me a few questions like if I did this for shows. or if I had inserts and to what degree I crossdressed. I then went over to the fragrence side, and ended up talking with one of the girls over there. I noticed she was larger on top, and asked if she was wearing one of the Miraculous bra's. She said that she wasn't and then proceded to tell meabout her surgery and what size she is now, again as if I were one of the girls.
I am just amazed at how open some of these girls are, with a somewht open guy like me, because I know that if they didn't know I wore, they wouldn't have been so open.

these shop assistances sound so nice. I'm always on edge in shops regardless of what I'm buying i never feel comfy. i have trouble finding bras that fit nice i don't know why. I don't like wearing bras but my boobs got a bit bigger and i worry if i don't wear bras they won't be perky when I'm older.
these stories about such helpful shop assistants make me happy. when i was trying on a tux in boys section of a shop sales lady was not very nice even though i was with my mum. sales assistants make me uncomfortable. especially the girl ones actually no idea why

There is a shop in my area that sells mastectomy bras as well as lingerie and breast forms. I go there by private appointment and the sales woman helps me with my bras and forms and she always has a selection of other linengerie which she helps me try on..
The first time I went there I was very nervous but she always makes me feel very comfortable. She told me she has many male customers and last week she even sold my my first gaf and a beautiful crotchless lace teddy.
