A warm San Francisco night

Post by Anita »

Last night was warm night in San Francisco, which is unusual even in summer or fall. We’re surrounded by water; ocean on one side, and the San Francisco bay on two sides. It’s almost always windy or foggy by late afternoon, and it seldom gets hot in the daytime.

We had a wedding party to play. The bride and groom had gotten married in Golden Gate park, and had their reception there. It was a beautiful day for it. At 8pm everyone went over to a bar that was closed to the public for the night.

The band before us did a lot of 80s hits. I realized the groom was about 3 years old when most of those songs were hot.

We went on at 10:30, and played our way through a 45 minute set. It was crowded on the tiny floor area we had to work with, but I had fun.
I had a new dress; a form-fitting sheath with colorful tatoo-like patterns on it. It was just above the knee, but it had a tendency to hike up all through the night.

The moment that got to me was after we’d played, and I was wheeling a dolly back down the sidewalk toward the club. The moon was a few days past full, but still prominent in the sky. I was in San Francisco, I was dressed up and feeling good, and many people were out on the streets.

It is still a privilege sometimes, to go out in my new girl clothes, and see and be seen. After ten years, I have to take it for granted a lot of times, because it's part of my life and not special.
But some nights are like this one; they remind me of how wonderful it is to be out as "me," Anita, and how much I've had to do to make that continue to happen.

Hi Anita,

I can really relate to what you said as I had a similar experience on sunday night.Ann and I had gone to an early movie,it was out at about 7 pm.I was wearing new jeans and a new sweater. The weather was perfect and I just stood looking at the sky and feeling the wind blowing around me.It was one of the best moments I have had as Jennifer.
