A New church

Post by Virginia »

My wife wants us to start going back to church. This is fine with me (she knows about my CD, she just does not want to meet Deborah - yet!?) Anyway, I went to the church where her parents (who know of my CDing)
go. It was soooooo depressing, the music was like Gorgerian Chant (so dark) the people were nice, and there is nothing wrong with getting old as we all (hopefully) will see - I am just not ready and intend to fight it every day. But they were all 65+ it seemed and all the maladies - sorry it was awful!
Anyway I have heard about a Uniterian church which I have been told is a "non-denominational" (which is an enigma in itself). Does anyone have any information on a Uniterian church and what they are about???Thanks, Deborah

Hi Deborah,

You'll find general statements regarding Unitarian Universalism here: http://www.uua.org/aboutuu/weare.html

Your closest congregation is here:

Unitarian Universalist Church of Roanoke
2015 Grandin Road, S.W.
Roanoke, VA 24015-3525

Hi all,

Julie,

I didn't even see your post... saw-wee. It appears we both posted at 1:29 pm. A certain synchronicity, no? 8)

You're right; your way is more fun. But I'm sure Deborah will be able to use any info she finds in our posts, regardless of how it's presented.

I have to admit that, upon reading about the UUA, I'm a little bit curious myself. My ex's mother belongs to a UU congregation and she's pretty choosy about her church of choice, because of her lifestyle and oh-so-rational mind (slices like a hot knife through butter, that one!).

Love,
CJ

Hi all,

Lorrie,

I'm glad you found a loving family in the Church you go to.

Like anything else, you sometimes have to shop around for a place your particular faith can call a home, one that "clicks." Not all Churches are necessarily so loving (it stands to reason; human beings will forever remain human beings, for good or ill, and wherever they are--including in the Houses of God). Like a close family, a competent therapist, or a caring friend, a good Church can be a balm for the soul. Or not. If you find these elements lacking, seek pastoral care elsewhere.

Although not a Christian myself, I like the openness of the Unitarian Universalists. This is from their mission statement: We know people differ in their opinions and lifestyles, and we believe these differences generally should be honored. I know they accommodate and welcome crossdressers, amongst others. 8)

Love,
CJ

You ladies are marvelous!!!!!!!!!
This is what its all about----helping eachother, even in the minor things! Thanks for taking the time to help me out. I know some of our sisters come with much more serious problems, some I have read that were WAY over my head and I chose not to respond as I would probably just make things worse, but I am learning! I will discuss the information that you have afforded me about the church with my wife and she will decide whether to go or not. I have my own views of religion (not to be discussed here) I am trying to appease her as she seems to still be struggling with my CDing.
Thanks again for all your love and support - you are are great ladies!!
Love, Deborah
PS_ CJ how did you get soooooo smart young lady??? Its wonderful to have you here!!!!!

Hi all,

Deborah,

You're welcome, about the info, I mean. You're right; this place is exactly what the doctor ordered when you're looking for info, support, encouragement, lively debate, or just plain old fun in exchanging ideas and viewpoints. Of course, that's aside from gleaning a crossdressing tip or two! :)

:: blushing here ::

I did not "get smart": life itself has a way of making us who we are and of putting us where we should be, including in the path of other wonderful people who can possibly benefit by our being who we are. And that includes me, too; I've met so many here that have brightened my day by providing both solace and food for thought when I most needed it.

Glad you're enjoying the time you spend here, Deborah! :)

Love,
CJ
