Bleaching?!?

I'm not sure if I saw it here or on another board, but I can't seem to find it again.....So, here we go....

Has anyone heard of or tried bleaching facial hair (w/ and over the counter bleaching cream, or the like.) as a way to decrease beard shadow under foundation? If so, how well, or bad did it work?

As I've said in another thread, My W and I have discussed LHR but at this time it's too cost prohibitive. I'm thinking of starting a savings account for it, but right now, I would just like to be able to ware minimal foundation/cover.

Any thoughts on this will be of great help!

Not tried it, but have at least one doubt/question.

Will the hair soak in the bleach to below the skin line?

Won't do much good to bleach the hair, shave, and end up with unbleached remnants under the skin.

Well, that's what I was wondering. I thought I read (wherever it was that I saw it)

that it will bleach the hair/follicle therefore, remaining lighter for a few weeks depending on growth rate. Which in me, unfortunately is fairly quick.

OK.... So, I'm gonna be the guinea pig.... Wife and I went to the local drug store today and picked up "Sally Hanson's EXTRA-STRENGTH facial hair bleaching cream --- for stubborn hair". Can't do it this afternoon, 'cuz the li'l one is home sick from school today. (nothing serious, just tummy trouble.)

So, I'll let you all know how it turns out.

As it were, I did find that thread on another site... The T-Girl that posted said:
"I used hair-bleaching creams. They are irritating, but their effects last a couple of weeks. Blondissima worked wonders for me. Just don't keep it too long, 20 minutes should be enough. The stuff burns and your skin will be red for an hour or so after."

"includes new growth. It bleaches what is under the skin, at least well enough to last a couple to three weeks. It's something to do if you got dark facial hair and a light or not very dark skin, when the 5 o'clock shadow shows."

My wife actually said that might be better than the Sally Hansen, but she wanted to try this one first.

OK. So, the verdict?!?!? Well, we're gonna have to do it again tomorrow night, but! considering that my facial hair is really dark.....It did a pretty good job!

there's a couple of areas that were a little more stubborn than I think Sally Hanson even expected.

Anyway....more to come!

Glad it seemed to work for you. I have really dark hair also but some is getting the old grey to it.

No, doesn't really hurt. There is a little bit of discomfort...but it's not bad, it's kind of like a slight burn, nothing major.....it's a little like using nair for hair removal. Word to the wise, breath through your mouth!!!! Use a straw if you have to. The fumes get a little harsh. :-&

Anyway, I bought another package of the stuff for round two. We'll see how it goes!

If it burning, it's not a good thing. You're probably damaging the hair follicles which means you may have a tougher hair or likely a twisted hair. Over the long run, these damaged hair follicles will likely cause ingrown hairs. Those become their own problem makeup wise.

My electrologist was dead set against any chemicals that hurt your follicles in anyway. So, I would say, use the products sparingly. I too wanted to try bleaching, but I also trust the advice I was given.

WOW!!!!!!! Yippee!!!!!!!!!

It works! Next time I have to get a little better coverage, but I am really happy with the results! The downside is that I had to let it grow in a little in order to get most of the hairs. But, I don't usually shave everyday. (sensitive skin) So i just shaved and I have to look real hard to notice a shadow. the test will be to wait a day or so to see if any shadow is noticeable. I can't wait try putting on make-up without having to cake on the cover. Next time I'm thinking of trying "Jolen cream bleach" and see if that works a little better.

As far as "burning"....It doesn't. At first, it goes on cold. Then as it starts to warm up, there's a bit of a tingle. The only real down side, as I said before, is the smell! It's quite strong, but then again.....what hair color/perm product doesn't?

So, it didn't have that "Sweet almond scent" they advertise?

How long did you leave it on? Not that I need it, what with all my gray hair.

No Donna, it definitely does not have that "Sweet almond scent". It's not too bad at first, but as it gets to working.....whoa!

We ended up leaving it on for about 13 min. or so. (according to the instructions) The tricky bit is that if your not careful, it can fall off in clumps.

But, ya just scoop it up, and put it back on. And those spots where it fell off, were the spots that didn't get the best results. I also think that next time, I'm gonna do it a section at a time. Maybe that way the smell won't be sooooo overwhelming.
