what's your favorite?
I listen mostly to bluegrass the last several years. It just seems more genuine to me. Right now I'm listening to Allison Kraus, and I tell you, there is a depth in her music that is rarely achieved.
I also listen to classical quite a bit, I consider that to be the "intelligent music".
I used to listen to country, and my dad would complain that they played the same 3 songs over and over. He was right, and now most of the "country music" annoys me, although rarely I will find something that I really like. So I have some selected few artists and songs that I listen to.
I guess my taste in music is as weird as my taste in clothes and my taste in nail polish and my taste in living environment.

I like most types of music. The only types of music I actively avoid (other than being played too loud) is rap and modern country and western (I bet the latter raises some hackles here). I do enjoy classical music.

My all time favourite group is from the 1970's and early 1980's and they are Renaissance, Annie Haslam their lead singer has a 5 octave range to her voice. Look for her on youtube and there are plenty of descriptions of her having the voice of an angel.

Young people today see music differently. They look at the past couple of hundred years music as one vast play ground and are not afraid to listen to Nat King Cole, Greenday and Katie Perry in succession. I like this way of listening to our great heritage

I think Alison Krauss is wonderful. I don't think you can get a better voice than that. I do tend to listen to quite a lot of female vocalists (like I tend to identify with a lot of heroines in movies - go figure). I have a big thing for Jazz, but quite like rock, classical, various bits of country etc.

My musical tastes vary more than my wardrobe! There's not much I don't like listening to. I go through phases, where I will listen to a certain type of music for a while. My SO says I'm obsessing...(whateva) I like good old fashion Rock and Roll, but I've gone for long periods listening to classical, or jazz, or blues, country, etc. These days my focus is on a heavier beat. Symphonic metal, or gothic metal tend grab my ear more often than not.

Music is very calming for me. I find my mood is much better with the stereo playing in the background. I'm courteous enough not to crank it up (unless I'm alone

) When there's no jukebox playin' I find myself humming or whistling to myself.

What can I say...I like music.

I agree that music fits ones mood. Yet I have never found a mood that fits with Rap(which ryhmes with crap) AKA hiphop. Some of the newer rock stuff does nothing for me either. Each generation had its good music and I can see why by looking at the times in which it was popular.

I like almost all genres of music. Not too keen on rap/hip-hop, but there are a rare few that are OK, not that I give it much of a chance when it comes on.

The cars radio stations are set to these various styles, and sometimes I have to go through a few channel changes just to figure out which one I'm really in the mood for.

I don't get much of a chance to listen to music, but when I do it tends to be romantic orchestral, Tchaik, Rach, Mahler, Wagner etc. although I am in the process of discovering Classical. In teh more modern styles I'm afraid it's progrock for me, King Chrimson et al. Mostly my daughter hates what I listen to, but the other day I had Romantic Warrior by Return to Forever cranked up and she said "hey for you that's opretty cool" yeha!

Country and Blue grass In the 80s and 90s. I used to play in a country band for about three yrs. The past 10years Im listening to classic rock, jazz, and blues. Dont care for most of the new country. Last year I started playing in another band playing classic rock and blues. I still play some of my old country songs, in privet.

I was snowboarding tonight, and on my way home, about an hours drive by myself, I listened to instrumental jazz. It was real pleasure, and made the drive sort of an event to itself. It is so seldom that I get to spend time, just really listening to music. I really need to do that more.

Actually, Michelle, I like Bad Religion. My son used to listen to them a lot. Their message is both skeptical and positive at the same time. I understand that the lead singer has a degree in chemistry, as well.

You Yanks have a different idea of what constitutes Punk, we had the Pistols, Clash, Damned even even the awfull Sussie and the Banshies. The Pistols and co swept through British culture - not just music - like a much needed dose of salts. Listening to the pistols now that the shock is past and the lyrics familiar it is noticeably how good the music is as well.
I am firmly wedded to the idea that there are only 2 types of music - good and bad regardless of style. I am sure that there is some good music that I just don't understand, but I am also sure that there is much more that is just not very good.

That's about how I feel, Paula. If is sounds good to my ears, then it's good. Even if it had to be digitally enhanced.

I listen to just about anything. Sadly the radio stations have billions of choices but play 20 of them all day ever day... the same 20 ... Pick a radio station. The only way to get any decent variety in what I listen to is local news when it's under an hour.

I still own cassettes that I get out at w**k or at home to give me sounds I understand and rarely get to hear these days.
