Hi all,
A few days ago Member of Parliament Bill Siksay's Bill C-389 passed through its third vote in the House of Commons. This bill encharting the rights and freedoms of transgender Canadians into the Constitution--and derogatorily referred to by its opponents as the "Bathroom Bill"--now faces a tough challenge as it heads to the Conservative-dominated Senate.

Interesting how the conservative most everywhere in the English speaking world equate transgender with bathrooms. I wonder what their bathroom fantasies consist of? Are they projecting on those who are transgendered their own fantasies of what they would like to do?

This really has been a big issue here in Canada, and one I hope, will ultimately be successful. I was actually in Parliament with some of my sisters during the final vote and it was a pretty emotional time. As guests of MP Bill Siksay, we were seated in the gallery opposite all our Parliamentarian supporters, and seeing the smiles and enthusiastic gestures of support from the MP's to us when the Bill was passed was amazing.
The Bill is now with the Senate, and as CJ said, being Conservative dominated, it's going to be an uphill battle. This is why many of us and our friends and family members are actively writing to our Senators for their support. Win or lose, the important thing is that transgender issues in this country are now on our Government's radar and being openly debated in Parliament. I remain hopeful that even if this Bill is defeated this time around, the door has been opened wide towards a greater understanding of the need to recognize our rights to our gender identity and gender expression. Keep those fingers crossed.

Only once was I worried about being in the ladies room while en fem. Get this, it happened to be in the Home Depot.
Shoot, I think a few state in the US still have anti-crossdressing laws on the books. Maryland was a slow state to retract their law(s). It's those laws that ever had me worried about using the ladies room.
