Scott Adams and mens rights article on blog
http://www.feministe.us/blog/archives/2 ... r-arguing/
Scott Adams to Men’s Rights Activists: Don’t bother arguing with women; they’re like children. by David Futrelle on 3.24.2011 ·
Trigger Warning: Some of the links in this piece contain harsh anti-woman slurs; the comments section on my blog is largely unmoderated.
So Scott Adams — the Dilbert guy — has a blog. Recently he made the mistake of asking his readers to give him a topic to write about. Well, some Men’s Rights Activists heard about this, and, being the herd animals that they are, quickly flooded his site with comments urging him to write about Men’s Rights. And so he did.
<snip>
The post has not only vanished from Adams’ blog; it’s vanished from Google Cache as well, but fortunately you can still find it here (on a feminist site), as well as on an assortment of MRA blogs I won’t bother to link to.

Given what passes for publicity and news these days, sometimes with both going hand in hand, straight to bed with one another, I'd bet money on Scott Adams thinking: "Let's shock some folks and get some of that Charlie Sheen spotlight on me" to drum up advertising revenue, or something else just as shady and underhanded...or worse...

** WARNING ** I'm probably going to upset some people with this post.
I understand what Scott Adams wrote. He's telling men not to whine about things that seem unfair. He's telling them to save their energy for larger and more significant battles. I don't see anything insulting or misogynistic in what he wrote. He targeted his text toward a very specific audience, the readers of his blog. I'd wager the majority of people who follow his blog understood him very well. It's largely the people who don't understand him and attempted to take his piece literally word-for-word who were upset. In this case, I'd say he got exactly what he wanted, agreement from his supporters and publicity from his detractors. It was a win-win for Scott Adams.

I read parts of it and some comments. Given Scott's fondness for sarcasm in other areas and given it was in a blog meant for people familiar with him, I wasn't that offended.
Who hasn't thought and said that the other gender is a pain in the butt and impossible to understand? We do it here often in the guise of calling traditional men knuckle dragging apes.
To my knowledge Scott Adams isn't running a radio show where he attempts to influence policy and pretends to be a deep thinker, a la Rush Limbaugh. He's a comedian who points out absurdities.

Unfortunately, he has made himself an absurdity. I like some of the Kilbert things, but even in his strip he comes across as a misogynist more often than not.
He truly is what he is.

I completely agree with Caith.
There is no reason to make a big deal out of it, I'm fairly certain that everyone has more important things to get upset about than what a comedian/cartoonist wrote. If you don't like what he writes, or draws, then don't read it!
The same thing goes for those who don't like Newt Gingrich, Karl Rove, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity or FOX News - all of whom are my favorites, mind you - if you don't like them, don't listen to them! I certainly don't agree with anything on MSNBC, CNN and the like, so I just don't watch those channels and I save myself getting all worked up over a bunch of blooming idiots (a very polite phrase for what I really think of far-left liberals and other nut cases).
Everyone can agree to disagree, and let it go at that.
It's that simple, folks!!

There's a place in the world for those folks, and thank whatever deity you wish for them, because if they weren't here, Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert wouldn't have nearly as many opportunities to be funny.SilverLady(SO) wrote:The same thing goes for those who don't like Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity or FOX News - all of whom are my favorites, mind you - if you don't like them, don't listen to them!

Well, as I can make out from across the other side of our far and distant pond, the right in the US doesn't have a head since Obama. That is to say there is no recognised leadership, rather there is the growing importance of the grassroots Tea Party movement and the media commentators (like the people you mention above).SilverLady(SO) wrote:I completely agree with Caith.![]()

Which is to say the guys on Fox and such like have real power right now. If you're saying this guy is comparable to them, that doesn't exactly make me feel he's ignorable.

We supposidly have the freedom of speach which allows us to say what we think. If we don't like what is being said we have the right to speak up.
When what is being said by cartoonist and commentaters is what we disagree with we have the right to vote with our dollars. If the stuff is not read or listened to then those people won;t have a job for long.

Scott Adams is a biting satirist. Accept him as such. Who takes Stephen Colbert at face value?
BTW, Liberals must be circular. If you go too far left beyond the 270' and 90' line, you wind up at the far right.
Is this thread headed for the "Hot Topics" section?
Hugs,
Lydia
