Memorial Day
Lets say a prayer for those that made the ultimate sacrifice so we could live in freedom.

Amen to that
11th November is our big Remembrance Day, its now getting bigger every year here.
We owe so much to those who gave their lives for us in the past.
We Will Remember Them.

I've noticed that in my area there are fewer and fewer flags flying on houses. One of the first things I did when we moved in to our apt was to put up Old Glory alongside the Union Flag. I got a few looks in passing but no one said anything. Two years later they still fly proudly side by side.
On Memorial and Remembrance day everyone should say a prayer for the fallen who gave us everything we take for granted but they never got a chance to enjoy.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

As a veteran I am sadden every year at the lack of flags that are flown not only on Memorial Day but on Flag Day, the 4th of July, Veterans Day, and Pearl Harbor Day. It seems that too many people have lost the respect of flying the flag on days of special occassion.
To all those who have served, and especially to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, I salute you.

Remember the ones who brought the war(s) home with them and relive parts of it every day of the rest of their lives. They are alive, and if prayers do any good, maybe they will help them. The ones in the skull orchards are dead, no longer needing your prayers. Remember them yes, but celebrate their lives and what they bought for you with them. If you fly your flag, do it proudly no matter what others might think.

My flags are the only ones flying on this street! A sad sign of the times. Many of us went to war proudly other kicking and protesting all the way. But that doesn't matter, we went and many of us didn't return and many returned with horrendous injuries and those of us with mental scars. I've always been ashamed to post my branch of the service because I didn't want folks to think of them in a less then honorable way. In the 60's the Marines were the elite(and still are). Other groups like seals, rangers, etc, came later. Guess I'm a sick puppy as I'm sitting here now watching "Apocalypse Now" as the huey's strafe a village and I feel ecstatic. I am so proud of our military and what they can accomplish. I'm so sad that there are other sisters that had bad experiences in the Corps. It was my home for 20 years to include 2 tours in Nam!
This is not to say that those that haven't served are any less patriotic but they will never understand the brotherhood of those of us that did.
