Who subscribes to any fashion magazines?

Post by Davita »

I currently get Redbook -- part fashion, part mommy help, part family fun. I have gotten Glamour, Lucky and a few others at various times. For those of you who fly, these magazines are nice to take since the articles are usually short, there are plenty of pictures, you can always find something useful and you can share with the other girls on the plane.

When I am the doc's office or the dentist, I always gravitate to the girl magazines and :) Highlights. I love the hidden pictures page. I've never noticed if anyone has ever noticed what I'm reading, not that it would matter to me.

Not me, personally . . . I prefer Birds & Blooms, Birds & Blooms Extra, Better Homes & Garden, Real Simple, as well as all my craft magazines (Cricut, scrapbook, card making, stamping, painting). I tend to stay away from all the 'girly' magazines as I find them too fake, phoney, idealistic, and sometimes downright trampy and trashy.

That being said . . .

Virginia prefers Glamour, Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Vanity Fair and the like . . . while her male alter-ego prefers Trailer Boats, The Family Handyman, Powerlifting USA, etc. to create equal balance. I will read one of his magazines before hers any day!

Weelllll the boy side of me does have his magazines. They include the nature types, Popular Science and Mechanic and some my mental stuff like Mind, Science News and Scientific American. My girl side is willing to look through any of them, but my boy side doesn't have a limit as to what I'll read. Honestly, when Davita is out, she doesn't have time for magazines not even on a plane.

I used to read "Glamour", but no more. It's not that those magazines are too girly.
It's that they are too consumerish, and mainly, too young. I read "Good Housekeeping" and the "New Yorker".

I don't subscribe to any magazines anymore because I am not home often enough to collect them. They would accumulate unread in a pile. In the past I read mostly the science magazines, but lately I will read the fashion magazines if I come across them. I find that I like to read them, but also that they are almost completely useless to me. The advice about dealing with husbands and boyfriends doesn't apply, neither does the make-up. So I find myself looking at $300 shoes and $500 bags that I could never afford. But once in a while I will find an article about something useful to me. Anyway, it's fun reading about it and pretending that I could be beautiful.

I subscribe to two magazines "The Garden" and "Materials Recycling Week" I've given up on "The Trombonist"
