Need -- Something that happens before one must feed.

(at least I was keeping it to four letters with neap. Besides, it's a cool word, not commonly used. I wouldn't have known what it was but we excavated the tackle for one where it had rotted away, and I had to identify it.)

Feed - to sustain or provide sustance

Deed . . . a good one should always be recognized!
