Alterations

I was out and about the other day, I was looking in all the charity shops trying to find some flat casual shoes to wear with skinny jeans, so anyway I bought this really nice lime green , not too short just above the knees with a little slit at the back, that means I need a jacket to go with the dress, I find one in my size that is a perfect match, but the arms are too long (Long Tall Sally) but the grey pin stripe skirt suit next to it something I have been after for ages, the only trouble is that I only have white or black blouses and that would be a bit boring so then I pick up this lovely lilac cotton blouse, which is just perfect with the suit....

I now find that the skirt on the suit so much too large that I can take it on or off with out undoing it. If I just double up the waist band and use a belt it doesn't hang right, and I like the suit so much that I am determined to have it altered, which means going to a tailors and having the work done, being measured and all that. My mad sudden spree could end up with another new experience, in the mean time I still want some shoes to wear with my skinny jeans - either that or I will just wear dresses, or suits, or maybe a skirt and blouse..........

I LOVE that story

That is so much like me. I used to find it so frustrating, but now I just look at it as an excuse to go shopping again. But now you have a good excuse to go find a seamstress to alter and to make new clothes for you. It's a really great experience to have dresses and things made just for you. I have a lady that makes me dresses, and it's funny because she wears very nearly the same size I do, and gave me some of her old dresses that fit me perfectly. One of them I like so much that she is making another like it, with a different material, and a few slight changes.
I think being fitted for a dress is even more fun than shopping.

Oh yeah, I really want to know just how much my shape measures up to a cow. I am probably never going to be measured for anything. Now with that said, I should take advantage of having a few things altered so they fit comfortably and are the right lengths in the right places.

For me trying on wedding gowns is really fun and you don't have to be measured for those

I found a place to undertake the alterations, very friendly and helpful (I think) no funny looks or explanations asked for. That was last week, today I had the phone call telling me the skirt is ready for collection, so in the morning I will be going over to collect it. Of course I will have to dress appropriately which means a couple of quick changes during the day, still that's all part of the fun.

I remember we had a member here named Amelie who sewed all her own clothes. Kind of cool.

simply because this is a work day, and I wanted to try the skirt on dressed appropriately i.e. hose and heels, then I had to get back to work which means jeans and safety boots. The skirt fits nicely and the suit looks as good as I hoped. It's been a hectic but satisfying day, as I also bought my daughter's birthday present - a new guitar amp - and opened her first proper bank account.

Well, I can't fault you for your hose etc. Glad it all worked out and you got the fit you were after. Congrats!
